I'm from england and we never got the show when it was first out but, I did get the DVD, I thought it was brilliant.
I love the Tom Cruise and Bruce Springsteen impressions (especially "counting with Bruce"). Of course its dated, just look at the fashions, but so what! Most things date and I think a lot of the jokes still work quite well. |
There were some great parts and some not so great parts. The not so great parts outnumbered the great parts in my opinion, but I did particular enjoy the Odenkirk sketches, namely the French B&W film of the guy showing how particular buildings reminded him of certain women, now that was funny stuff.

NO
I thought it was hilarious when it was on. I really haven't liked much of anything any of the cast have done since, oddly enough. |
Originally posted by ween There's your problem right there. The Ben Stiller as of late (Meet the Parents, Something about Mary, Along Came Polly, Envy) is pretty much the unfunny, punching bag character of his, much like the persona he portrays in the interviews during the Ben Stiller Show(although those are actually sometimes funny). This character was funny the first time I saw it in film(Flirting with Disaster), If you like former set of movies over the later then I don't think you will like the Ben Stiller show as much. It is sad that I think that he is going to continue with his Meet the Parents persona as that makes him money Bo. Ring. I love the Fox show and still have fond memories of his MTV show. Not to mention the first thing I ever saw him do, "The Hustler of Money" on SNL. So funny I couldn't believe it. |
Obviously it's gonna be dated, because it was made 10 years ago. That's not gonna stop me from laughing. I think it helps if you've seen the thing they're parodying. On the first episode when they did the parody of U2's "One" with Lucky Charms, I literally almost died laughing. I fell out of my chair and was just cracking up. Everything was so spot on with the video, it was just amazing. Then my brother, who was also watching, wasn't familiar with "One," so he just sat there looking at me with a WTF look on his face

I just never thought it was that funny. My friend tried to get me into it when it was first on, but it all fell flat for me. I tried watching it a few times it was run on cable but it still never really connected for me. Comedy is just a really subjective thing. My friend continues to worship this like it's the best thing ever and the thought of just watching a few skits from the show makes me cringe. To me the equation has always been: Ben Stiller=Not Funny. Each to their own I guess.

Check out the "Manson" sketch. Good stuff.

Least funny show? Well, as far as sketch comedies go, Mad TV takes the cake.
My fav Stiller show moment was the Tonight Show auditions and seeing William Shatner and Steven Seagal go at it ala Star Trek. |
