A General Star Trek Question

Probably the best forum for this question.

During the ST TOS, the opening credits begin with the "Space...The Final Frontier...yada...Five Year Mission..."

My question is whether the begining ever said anything but 5 year mission. The series, as we all know, was only 3 years, so I was curious if they ever changed the opening.

Except for 'The Cage', it's always the same.

Beeeeyoooooond the rim of the starlight ....

The only place it MAY have been changed was 'season 4' - aka the animated series. But it's been 20 years since I've seen an episode, so I dont remember how it went down. But yeah, the opening Shatner speech was never changed for the Old School series.

The animated series also said "Five-year mission". I have them all.

Wonder if they will release these on dvd? I've never seen any of them although I've read the Star Trek Log series by Alan Dean Foster. I think there is an interesting episode written by Larry Niven where the worlds of Star Trek and Niven's Known Space are combined.

Yes, it's coming out. Very soon in fact.

I'm not familiar with any information that would corroborate this. There was a question posted at Startrek.com that asked interested people to e-mail, but that's it.

If you have other information than this, please post.

I could've swore I read it at Trekweb.com but I am probably mistaken. I know they are release in the TOS this year on DVD, so maybe I got it confused w/ another Trek release.

Don't get me wrong Def, I would *really* like these to come out! I just got the impression they were thinking about it.

What will Paramount do when they don't have any more ST to release :)

Eh, Paramount is a disaster these days. They've run Star Trek into the ground by letting Berman make...the crap he makes. Hell Lansing has run the whole studio into the ground making nothing but supposedly safe, cookie cutter junk movies. This studio used to make good films...what happened.

seeing how TAS isn't considered cannon I wouldn't hold my breath on it getting released

I thought I read as well that this was coming out, but I checked on the site www.tvshowsondvd.com and they have some information regarding TAS

Basically to sum up:

"Would you like to see the Animated Adventures on DVD? Let us know at [email protected]."

Easy, rerelease.

My prediction:

Star Trek 5 will come out in at least 3 more editions, 1) to clean up the print that they obviously didn't clean up for the current special edition. 2) somehow, they will end up rereleasing the above again either by mistake or with a new drunken commentary by shatner. (i mean that lovingly) 3) Finally the directors cut

Maybe by then Nemesis will have been on the big screen in Norway.

Got to hand it for Paramount for at least getting trek on DVD, but i'd sware there was a special department at paramount devoted to not getting it right.

Sorry Mike, but that doesn't have anything to do with anything. It's whether or not it would be profitable to do so.

Considering that ST fans usually gobble up anything related to the ST universe, I would say there is a good chance of it getting released. I consider it a "real" ST series. Heck, it was even voiced by the TOS cast!
