Ed 1/16/04

New episode tonite.

The plot with Ed and his ex-wife is only so-so but I liked the subplot with Nancy, Mike and Gunther (the foreign exchange kid), especially his reaction when Gunther tried to kiss Nancy. Not too ragey but funny.

It was also nice to see the return of the $10 dollar bet. at Ed bugging his eyes out. "Is my face supposed to be this tingly?" (or something like that)

I enjoyed the part where Phil and Shirley got on the mikes when Eli was talking to the station manager.

I don't blame Gunther for his shenanigans one bit. Nancy is a complete and total MILF. But Mike's speech as he was shooting pucks at him was good, too.

Is Gunther really the Finnish word for Gay? The first half of the episode was average, but it got better towards the end. Mike never fails to entertain and I'm going to miss Shirley. Sure seems like the writers have given up hope, because it's not nearly as creative/unique as it used to be. I liked the way Ed's ex handled Carol catching her kissing Ed goodbye, by giving Carol a smooch as well. I don't think the show has much of a shot at coming back, but if it does, it's as NBC's show for families. It's completely gone in that safe direction and, I think, lost a lot of the "younger" audience that liked seeing Ed throwing boxes of waffles at Carol's window. Love anything Amy Sedaris does, but she was completely wasted in her role.

Ugh! For some reason my NBC affiliate decided to air a one-hour infomercial for St. Judes Hospital instead of Ed. Can someone provide or point me to a synopsis?

The last 10 minutes were very funny, LOL funny, in fact. Mike rules.

I work with many Finns and they don't sound anything like Gunther.

Where is Shirley going?

beefjerky 01-17-04 12:26 PM

Phil: Shirley you are on fire today!
Shirley: I had a nutritious breakfast.

That was my exact thought when it was over. The first 50 minutes were a borefest, but they redeemed themselves in the last 10. The radio show was kinda lame, but has potential. It's time to get rid of Liz and revisit the high school

I wish they'd realize the $10 bet belongs in every episode. It's like if Letterman didn't do a top ten list every night. It's better to have a stupid one than none at all because it's just weird without it.

OK episode. Nothing special again.

So I suppose NBC will send Ed & Carol to matrimony bliss and that will be the end of Ed, the television show.

I think dolph was referring to the probable cancellation of "Ed" at the end of the season, so she won't be the only one going. :(

Patman 01-17-04 05:40 PM

The last episode of the season(series?) is 2/6/04 and it's supposed to end with Ed and Carol's marriage.

Rogue588 01-17-04 07:39 PM

Are you sure that FEB date is right?

That would make this season 17 eps long..

big whoppa 01-17-04 09:54 PM

It's a shame really. I love the characters and the whole feel of the show. Somewhere, they lost most of their audience. I'm sad to see it go.

Patman 01-18-04 12:45 PM

NBC cut down the episodes, and they will be bringing Miss Match back in the same Friday timeslot once Ed is done for the season/series.

I just about busted a gut when Mike slaps the puck into Gunther's chest and bowls him over the hockey net. That was classic Mike handling problem in his own quirky mano-a-mano way.

The return of the $10 bet was also integrated well into the episode.

Ah, reminded me of why I had a crush on Lea Thompson back in the mid 80s. She's still a cutie.

big whoppa 01-18-04 10:39 PM

I thought Lea was looking mighty old. She looks much older than when she had her own sitcom.

The best scenes were the ones with Lea Thompson :D :D :D

That's what I thought too. Actually, I was wondering if they chose her because she's not all the "hot" anymore and maybe they didn't want any of the fans to have a reason to like her the way that we did with Frankie.

If I was Ed (and that would be great by the way) and it was a choice Between Carol and Liz, it would be Carol without hesitation. I'd actually rub it in Liz's face, just how much better I had it now. But that's just me. I'm not even close to as nice as Ed is. :)

nightwing82 01-19-04 02:13 AM

I would push Carol into some muddy puddle and pick Liz :D

Patman 01-19-04 08:00 AM

In HDTV, it's even more evident that the passage of time hasn't been too kind to Lea, but I'm guessing her "Caroline In The City" show made it easier for an NBC show to go out and cast her in the role as Liz (though I remember the original Liz being hotter).

movieking 01-19-04 05:23 PM

Lea looked older, but she still looked fine in that little skirt that she had on.

Gunther was funny. As was said, can't really blame him for wanting to nail Nancy. Who doesn't?

Boo to Carol. Sick of her.
