Ed 1/7/04
I didn't like this episode all that much, too much of Carol's angst and insecurities on display.
Now, Mike the Decision Maker subplot was probably the most entertaining part of the episode, but it couldn't really save it from the other 2 subplots. |
i liked the entire episode and mike just ran away with the whole thing. his toast to ed and carol had me rotfl and the best quote..."decision master's rock em....and sock em.
|
Crap - I missed this one. Can someone please give a recap?
|
I didn't think this ep was too bad.
Mike was definitely the best part - loved how he centered all of the seating around the tv and put the couch up on blocks. Then the decision master freaks out because he can't decide what magazine to buy amongst three-hundred. He's too much. The best part of the Carol plot was watching Ed, Mike, Nancy and Molly act like retards in her stories. |
:thumbsup:Mike's speech at the end. I was rolling when he said marriage was like prison except you get to make love with your cellmate sometimesrotfl
Carol's stories were ok. The one in the highschool looked like an episode of Buffy. Nancy looked good in that cheerleader outfit though. |
Mike's toast was so jaw-droppingly bad, it's a classic! "Marriage is...like prison."
Okay, I did laugh when the driver's ed teacher was sad and was just driving in circles. |
2 words:
Stadium Seating rotfl |
No 10$ bet
No Eli and the pie lady  |
Originally posted by MrX Nancy looked good in that cheerleader outfit though. Okay episode. The Carol vignettes were entertaining enough and not overdone. Of course, Mike was Mike. "Here's 40 dollars to buy shinguards...for your shins." |
2 words from Mike.... Booze Louge.....
|
Oh my goodness Mike's toast had me rolling! He just choked so bad it was funny.
I really do hope that Carol can make up her mind about something: first she wants to live in NY then she doesn't, then she wants to elope now she doesn't. I think the decision master storyline should have gone to her. And we can't forget stadium seating too  |
I didn't really like all of the recreating of Carol's storylines although it was interesting to see all of the Ed characters role playing as other people.
It was all about the engagement party and Mike's speech in this episode for me. |
I thought there were some interesting and funny parts, most of which have been discussed already: Mike's toast (prison??), the whole Decision Master thing, Nancy in outfits, the driving teacher, etc.
However, my wife and I had a bit of Deja Vu at the end of the episode as Carol was sitting there looking at Ed cavorting (in slow motion) with his friends at the engagement party, which served as the catalyst to change her mind on wanting an elopement instead of a full blown wedding. The elopement being a sudden wild hair up her ass, where she has in sudden internal struggle with an issue which results in her acting all frazzled and breathless, suddenly declaring that she wants and needs things HER way, which of course is the complete opposite of the original plan. To which Ed agrees even though he doesn't want to. Only, as I said, to end up changing her mind at the end, after seeing Ed and his friends. The Deja Vu came from the fact that the exact same problem/resolution happened about 3 episodes ago, just substitute moving to NY for wedding. We have both really started to dislike Carol this season as she turns into a whining, inconsistent, pain in the ass. And we are starting to dislike Ed as well for having no backbone to just say "hey, stop it" or at least to speak up when he is REALLY being imposed on. He is totally passive/aggressive. For us, Mike and Nancy carry the show. Which is too bad (no offense to M&N) because the whole lead up to the Ed and Carol story (first few seasons) was really sweet, especially the end of last season. |

It was a subpar episode, but it had its moments: The screening room (stadium seating:lol: ), Nancy in the corset as Pirate Mike's wench, the booze luge, Carol writing the horror story, Nancy's dress at the engagement party. In fact I might prefer they just change the name of the show to Dr. Mike and his Wife's Boobs :D |
I too liked Mike the Decision Maker subplot.
|
My favorite Mike moment was during the party when he and Nancy went into another room so she could apologize for changing all his plans.
Mike (pause): "You want to go upstairs?" Nancy: "Uchh" rotfl Someone give this guy his own show when "Ed" is likely cancelled at the end of the season. |
Interesting tidbit I hadn't noticed before, but Tom Cavanagh also directed last night's episode. So, now he stars in, produces, and directs.... Not bad.
I liked this weeks episode. They have not put Carol, mentally, back in Stuckeyville yet. The fun banter of all of them together has been missing since the New York thing started. Now that Ed & Carol are staying and everyone is on the same page, hopefully things will get back to "normal", whatever that means. Mike is the funniest part of the show. We need more Warren, we need more Phil! |
Actually the best part of last night's ep was the inclusion of the Aimee Mann song during the final scene.
|
Am I the only one that is really starting not to like Carol? It seems like every show has her changing her mind about something: taking the job, moving, eloping, etc. I don't think that she is good enough for Ed.
With the pace that the show has been on lately, I think that I would much rather see a full hour of Mike and Nancy than have them share the time with Ed, Carol and Molly. Get the Burtons a spinoff pronto! |
Alright, admittedly, at the beginning of the season, i professed my love for Carol. Now, I can't stand her. Put Ed with someone less vapid, boring, and inconsistent. Even that short, weird looking one for last season would do. Hell, I've got an idea...Bring back that DA from like the first season and put Ed with her. Now that Coupling is off the air, it'd give her some work. Also, I love the idea of a Mike and Nancy spin off. How freakin' awesome would that be?
|
Bring back Bonnie? Oh yeah...
|

I would put Carol in fifth place for Ed, after Jennifer (Kelly Ripa), Bonnie (Rena Sofer), Frankie (Sabrina Lloyd) and Molly. Hell, I would even put the friend that he used to work with at the Bowling Alley ahead of her at this point.

Interesting. Thanks djbrown.

It was definitely a different brunette that played Ed's now ex-wife in the first season of "Ed".
|
This episode was painful. I watched it last night finally and found myself looking at my watch so I could just go to bed. I was watching it on my computer and just had the audio playing in the background for most of the time because the storyline was just not interesting at all. Again, Mike stole the show. He's like Joey on Friends - the only thing worth tuning in for anymore.
This episode did nothing to advance any plot. This was the last time we'll see this show on Wednesday nights. Goodbye, Ed. |

Which would be enough for me to want it to come back, if I felt Mike and Nancy would be the leads, but that won't ever happen. And I don't think NBC is even considering a Mike and Nancy spin-off, but I really wish they'd write and episode that had both Ed and Carol away and let the ENTIRE story develop around Mike and Nancy. Maybe if that did well it would get the people at NBC thinking about it. Otherwise, we'll see these two actors next season is 2 separate sitcoms that both suck. |
Anyone think the Ed and Carol are America's favorite couple? The voiceovers for the promos are nauseating in this respect.
|
I think they meant Mike and Nancy and just used the wrong shots in the promo. :p
|
Just a reminder to those taping tonights show, like me, it starts at 7:59 CST (8:59 EST). Don't miss the first minute! (Damn NBC)
