Battlestar Gallactica (new series) question

Is this going to be an ongoing tv show or was it just a mini movie. I can't seem to find any info on it.

Yes.

At least from what we know so far.

At this point, it is just a mini-series. But was clear from the press (and the ending) that they are using it as a pilot for a proposed series.

Of course, the same thing can be said of Legend of the Rangers, Ringworld, and countless other Sci-Fi (sic) projects. It's probably unlikely that you'll see a weekly show develop.

B5:Legend of the rangers didnt come close to getting the ratings of Battlestar(because of that damn playoff football game)

They did Ringworld? When did this happen? Was it any good?

Ronald D. Moore, executive producer and writer for the recent Sci-Fi Channel miniseries "Battlestar Galactica" started off the new year by saying that the "jury is still out" on whether or not the cable channel will be picking up the highly-rated miniseries as a full-blown series.

"We're still in discussions with the network, the actors' contracts have been extended until the end of January (that is the time period in which their options for series can be picked up) and I've been working on the show bible and the first few episodes in anticipation of a possible order," Moore told SyFy Portal's Michael Hinman. "It's a complicated, ambitious show, and Sci-Fi Channel wants to understand all the economic implications before going to series -- pretty standard network procedure -- but I'm hopeful we'll get the pick up."

Let's just hope the new show doesn't wind up like the original...reusing special effects shots from the pilot over and over again because they can't afford to make new ones.

Personally, I'd rather see them do a new mini-series once a year with some quality to them.

If SciFi makes it a regular series, it's doomed. It'd simply cost too much to keep up anything resembling the quality of the miniseries. They've already proven that they don't have the stomach or the pocketbook to keep an ambitious series on the air.

It'd be much better if they stick to a yearly miniseries format. Otherwise, there's a good chance BSG will end up looking like Lexx. Lexx got so cheap that they spent the last 2 seasons on Earth instead of a different planet each episode and reusing the same effect over and over and over.

Farscape was able to keep up it's great look, but they had more than a few earth bound, low budget eps near the end.

Stargate, well, Stargate always passed off Canada as 1000 different planets and they have years of experience with effects on a budget which makes the show look even better each year.

Good point

I was going to say that Babylon 5 proved you don't need a huge budget to put out a quality sci-fi series, but Sci-Fi seems to look at things differently than most cable networks.
