Carnivale 11/30 season finale
"The Day That Was the Day"
Ben turns to Lodz for advice; Stumpy and Rita Sue strike a deal to save their marriage; Sofie settles a score with Libby and Jones; Balthus and Brother Justin contemplate the former's greatest evil. Now if I could only log on to hbo.com to check out this live chat. ;) |
Well a pretty decent season finale.
Anybody else think the voice of Management was Spoiler:
Also a real cliffhanger ending. I can't imagine they would kill off Spoiler:
I hope this does not become like the Sopranos though with lose ends never tied up, and story lines never followed through. |
Hbo.com will not let me in. I've been trying for the last few minutes.
Spoiler:
Do you think maybe they're counting the hits to decide if this show's gonna be continued or not? Phil L, don't forget Spoiler:

I asked a question a question as "Jack01" but I can't hang out in the chat any longer.
It is crawling as the actors are taking really long time answering each question. |
Well, quite the cliffhanger, but a bit annoying as well. I guess this "battle" between good and evil will all get dragged out in Twin Peaks fashion, let's see if they can put together a strong 2nd season.
|
I thought we'd get to "see" management.
The new season won't even start until early 2005 according to something I read. It was decent. I guess I was kind of hoping they'd wrap it up and call it a series. |

It would have been nice to have a 2 hour show with a bit more, well, whatever it is that seems to be missing. All in all, this series wasn't quite as good as I wanted it to be, but it's interesting enough that I'm follow it if it continues. |

I was absolutely awestruck by this one. The best of the season and one of the best HBO episodes I've seen (Sopranos and SFU included). |
This show killed me. I thought I had read somewhere that Carnivale was going to be a mini-series, along the lines of "from the Earth to the Moon," not an ongoing series. This entire season was character development, only finish a cliff hanger. Where the hell was this great battle of good vs evil that has been promoted throughout the season?
And what's up with HBO taking more than a year between seasons?! Sorry for my rant... kram |

Over in the Carnivale thread at HTF, a couple of people mentioned it would be about 9 months before season 2. I hope that's true, and not 2005!
The voice of management sounds like Linda Hunt. I'm definitely re-watching this on the Tuesday replay. Had to watch on on VHS and the quality wasn't so good, and for some reason our downstairs DirecTV hookup, where the VCR is, doesn't have stereop (I'll need to check the connections or something). Plus I need to see that end again! Brian P.S. - When does Six Feet Under return? |
I probably would've enjoyed this episode if I didn't know it was the season finale. Leaving it so open ended is enough for me to consider not watching it when it comes back. If they are going to get sidetracked with more of these love triangle stories, I don't care to watch it any more unless it includes some sideshow freaks, and psychics don't count!
I liked the way they wrapped up the cootch show family mess, but they should've gotten that out of the way sooner and moved the main story along. Did they reveal anything interesting in this episode? I wouldn't mind if that catatonic witch Appy dies in the fire. The last thing this show needs is someone saying things we never hear  |

Sopranos is coming in March, so I'm guessin 6FU will come back at June followed by the Wire in the fall, so it seems right that Carnivale would come back in 2005.
|
I wouldn't call the fire a cliff-hanger device... they'd better be dead, though. None of 24's David "I Got Better!" Palmer business.

Most television networks (HBO included), do not like to show new stuff during the summer. They moved Sopranos Season 4 to Fall for this reason. SFU will probably follow suit, but that is a very long wait. You never know with HBO though. |

Originally posted by veloce Hasn't The Wire been a June premiere show both times? I can't recall. I know that there was a new Sex and the City season during the summer one time. |
So will we be without an hour long drama on HBO on Sundays until march? That doesn't seem right.
Maybe we'll just have to get by with Sex/City (which I hate) and Curb Your Enthusiasm (which I love). |
Originally posted by kmac I think that The Wire S1 started right after one of the Sopranos seasons, but I am not sure about the second season. It might have started in the summer. I know that there was a new Sex and the City season during the summer one time. Season 1 premiered June 2, 2002 and ran 13 episodes. Season 2 premiered June 1, 2003 for 12 eps (all the HBO dramas are 12 now, except maybe Sopranos will be 13, or 17, or 18, depending on which article you read). Not bad for dog days of summer programming. |
I'm pretty sure I saw all the episodes, but I'm a bit confused by the wanted posters of Ben. Who did he murder and what episode is it explained? I just remember that guy pulling the poster off the wall of the gas station. I don't remember any set up.
