I have been insulted!

I was asked by a co-worker if I had ever seen the new show "Cold Case". I replied that I had not, in fact I've never even heard of the show. Then I asked when it was on. She told me it's on at 8 pm on Sundays. I said, "Oh, I usually watch 'The Simpsons' at that time." She snorted derisively and said something to the effect of, "Yeah, that shows the mentality of the country today." As if watching yet another show about crimesolving is somehow better than watching one of the most intelligent shows that has ever been on the air. After 11 years, why do people still consider "The Simpsons" just a cartoon, on the same level as something like "The Jetsons"?

Honk!

Just remember, "If she floats, then she is not a witch like U thought."

Oh yeah, it sucked that COLD CASE wasn't on today.

I actually feel conflicted because the two are on at the same time. I love cold case, but the Simpsons rule! They have been consistently funny for over a decade. She's just a b***** who thinks she's smarter than everyone else. Idiot!

Perhaps her point was that watching only one show per timeslot is your problem ...

Just tell her "There are so many CSI clones on right now that it's difficult to distinguish which is which and when they are on."

Yeah, did you ask her if she buys fullscreen DVDs

I think it's mostly females who don't like The Simpsons. I have never heard a guy say anything bad about the show. I know a girl who told me she thought it was a stupid show. Believe me, I took it as an insult too. I think I even gasped in disbelief It was a minor victory for me to get her to watch the episode with the suave bowling instructor from the first season dvds and admit it was "OK". OK? It's Albert Freaking Brooks!

At that point I pretty much gave up and figured that some women equate The Simpson to The Three Stooges. They just don't get it.

That was an insult alright, but Cold Case is actually a really good show most of the times.

You should tell her that picking on the Simpsons for the countries woes is so 1995...

You should have quoted Emily Gilmore:

"I don’t watch that much television. I don’t find forensic work quite as fascinating as the rest of the world."

But I like Cold Case.

It's no PBS documentary, but for a comedy I would agree it's one of the most intelligent shows that has ever been on the air. If you narrow it down to just animation, even more so. Besides I think he was referring more to the obvious intelligence that is going on behind the scenes to create the show. Though, I thought I read at one time there was an actual college course somewhere based on analyzing The Simpsons.

Here's a quote from a recent article
"The show, rich in satire and social commentary, is also the popular in academia. University course books include The Simpsons and Philosophy: The D'oh! Of Homer and The Gospel According to Homer Simpson."
full article
But then again the writer's from Canada

If she was a DVD Talker, she would have said that "The Simpsons" was pure crap after season 6 and then yelled loudly when you tried to present your point.

I love the Simpsons, and have been a devoted fan since the old Tracy Ulman Show. However, I haven't watched a single episode this year... Cold Case (IMO) is the best show on television right now.

I will catch the Simpsons in reruns (or in 2089, when this season finally comes out on DVD).

Because.. to be fair, I've seen plenty of Jetsons episodes FAAAR superior to the level The "Simpsons" has taken itself over the last 6-7 years.

It's not just a cartoon.. it's a BAD cartoon.

I like the Jetsons, but the Simpsons episode just two nights ago was better than any Jetsons episode.
