Simpsons 11/23

liked the jab at brazil. other than that, pretty mediocre

Rogue588 11-23-03 07:36 PM

this was full of zingers... [or is that heaters...]

from the Jimmy Page comment, to the Madonna "exchange"..

the only thing that annoyed me was the OVERUSE of guest stars..

other than that...it was pretty good.

Alyoshka 11-23-03 08:29 PM

"You turned into a turnabout!"

Groucho 11-23-03 08:31 PM

Pretty much terrible. I did like Homer's line about Canada.

Deftones 11-23-03 08:44 PM

the Mr. Bean comment was funny, as was the English version of the drive thru guy.

 for the comment about Brazil.

MrX 11-23-03 09:24 PM

I thought it was pretty good.

Loved the Mr. Bean and Jimmy Page lines

Tuan Jim 11-23-03 09:47 PM

Which Brazil line? The thing about monkeys?

I liked the sign: Harrods: We Make Keys.

Also, Prince Albert in a Can ;p

Jackskeleton 11-23-03 09:50 PM

didn't watch it, nor will I watch it till like tomorrow. I figure the best way to go into it is not expect much and just enjoy it.

Yes. Back when the Simpsons episode where they went to Brazil, they made a comment on the show about monkeys. The Brazilian government wasn't too happy with it and asked for an apology.

muggins 11-23-03 10:31 PM

There were quite a few humorous lines in there, especially the one about America acting best unilaterally.

POWERBOMB 11-23-03 10:46 PM

Funny show. Enjoyed the pot shots at the Brits, but I could have done w/o the "gay scene."

mariakitty 11-23-03 11:03 PM

I thought it was one of the funniest episodes I have seen in a long time, though I don't LOVE the Simpsons anyway. I mean, it's alright ;)

Lateralus42 11-23-03 11:05 PM

no plot, but it had alot of quick zingers, they almost go by too fast. Homers sister Abby was cool, I hope they bring her back sometime.

leepyswetr 11-23-03 11:55 PM

I also thought it was one of the best episodes in quite a while.

BlackCapTen 11-24-03 01:29 AM

Had some pretty funny moments.

When Mr. Burns said "Smithers, guide me in" I laughed pretty hard.

I had a feeling about the "long lost sister" angle after Grampa's story. Maybe next season she can visit the USA.

When they were going around in circles on the British street I thought of European Vacation...Look kids- Big Ben, Parliament...

Chew 11-24-03 06:01 AM

Overall not too bad. Plenty of good one-liners. I'm surprised how many guest voices they got for this one.

That wasn't actually Tony Blair was it. I hope not at least.

Yes it was.

Thought that would have been the least of his "pressing issues" at the moment. oh well. How about Judi Dench? Was that her as well?

No.

According to this site, it takes 10 months from start to broadcast for a Simpsons episode. Given that, Blair likely recorded his part before more current "pressing issues".

And it probably took less than 10 minutes of his time to record. Even heads of state get to take breaks, eat, and sleep.

PalmerJoss 11-24-03 09:28 AM

Great episode. My favorite line--"Wow! I can't believe we just met Mr. Bean!" I loved all of the cameos, especially JK Rowling's. Poor Sir Ian, though.

tofu 11-24-03 09:54 AM

Excellent episode. Loved the Madonna bit at the end.

huzefa 11-24-03 10:06 AM

Good ep all around; one of the better Simpsons episodes this season.

Ralph Wiggum 11-24-03 12:43 PM

Some good lines, not that great of an episode.

I thought it was great that he was willing to make fun of theatre superstitions. A lot of actors get really uptight about respecting theatre history.

movieking 11-24-03 03:06 PM

I really liked the episode as well. It was a pleasant surprise since this season has been a bit of a dissapointment to me, a longtime Simpsons fan. I love how they don't make a big deal out of the cameos anymore. In the past they would build an episode around them (like Micheal Jackson and Dustin Hoffman), but now celebs are lucky if they get two lines...

Pants 11-24-03 05:48 PM

"I love you Lord Daftwager!"

Brilliant!!!

bigterp2 11-24-03 05:55 PM

Overall the episode didn't do that much for me. However, it was a great exercise in how many UK refernces they could drop. I loved the part with Maggie as the kid in Trainspotting.

madcougar 11-25-03 12:04 AM

Overall story was poor, but there were many funny one-liners, enough to make me forget the weak premise.

Jackskeleton 11-25-03 12:34 AM

didn't do much for me. w00t, now homer has a sister...

PalmerJoss 11-25-03 06:14 AM

I can't believe noone has mentioned one of the funniest bits of the episode--the Hockey Dad videogame! That whole bit had me rolling on the floor laughing--especially when the videogame announcer was saying "You're a big man! You're a big man!"
That was just wrong, but so hilarious.

prayformojo 11-25-03 10:10 AM

Hockey dad - the videogame was very funny ... two years ago. I realize the long lead time, but what an out-dated joke.

But still years ahead of Friends.

That was the only problem I had with it, it was defintely gimmicky. Not a very good story, but it was funny all the way through . I couldn't believe the "Smither, guide me in" line. That was a lot racier than the old men kissing, imo.
