BTVS season 1 question

Was there ever a reason given for the changing of H.S. principals?

I assume you're asking about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Plotwise, I don't think I have to tell you why they changed principals. As far as behind-the-scenes reasons, I don't think there were any. Joss Whedon has never been afraid to kill off characters.

That's one of the things that made me realize how different this show was from anything else on TV. Jesse seemed like he was gonna be one of key members of the Scooby Gang, and Joss turned him into a vampire and staked him by the end of the second episode of the series.

Well, Snider replaced Flutie because
Spoiler:
Flutie was eaten by a group of students possessed by a primal hyena spirit.

From a storyline perspective, I think they wanted a new principal that would

oppose Buffy. Flutie was sort of nerdy and touchy-feely. Snider came on like a martinet, an "impotent little Nazi," I believe he was once described as. I don't think Flutie would've been as pro-active against Buffy and the Scoobies as Snider was.

It was also good because for a while, we didn't know exactly *what* Snyder knew about the vamps and the dark forces in town.

And, hey....Principal Quark!
