German Stereotypes in Commercials
 

Hello, I've been doing some research and having very little luck. I need some examples of German stereotypes found in commercials since the beginning of American television up 'til today.

:lol: Those crazy Germans!

Try researching the abomination that was the McDonalds Oktoberfest/Winter Olympics/!?!?!? campaign where they featured a different german sausage every week in hot dog form.

I believe it featured the usual oom-pah accordians, John Cleese "don't mention the war" German accent and traditional German attire - and it was completely devoid of humor...

I'm not sure if I remember this one correctly, it's from the late 70s early 80s. A car is passing through a checkpoint, perhaps between East and West Berlin. The stern German guard demands to see the driver's papers. The driver hands him a coffee filter and drives off. The guard looks at the camera and exclaims, "Mellita filter papers?!?"

There was a recent ad campaign by a beer company that used Germans in that manner

It's not a stereotype found in commericials, but in my experience, Germans LOVE backpacks. Seriously. If you see a bald, pasty, thin guy wearing a backpack, 99.9% chance he's German.

I'm still not having any luck. I wonder where I can find more information about these ads. I've searched and searched to no avail.

But I remember Sprockets being my first impression of Germans. haha..

There's a Sam Adams commercial running, where three guys go into a bar called "House of Beer" (or something similar). The barmaid is a blonde hottie with a definite Deutcher accent, who pushes a beer catalog across to bar to the guys while saying stuff like "we have over 1000 beers from dozens of countries, divided into categories and cross-referenced by blah-blah-blah-blah.... call me when you are ready."

Several recent car commercials come to mind. There is the one where the parents are leaving the kid at home alone where they drive the car and the Volkswagen commercial where they are playing Da Da Da by Trio.

There are also one in the Simpsons where they are watching a commercial for a German Sausage.

What about the Germans doing commercials for GE ovans.

If you're doing some sort of presentation or something, and it's to stupid people, you could say that the Ikea guys are actually German.
