SNL 10/18: Busting down the gates of teh unfunny

Well lets see how this goes. so far the opening sketch was pretty funny.

then step in halle and spears and the kiss and the joke is killed before it was even born. poor aborted funny.

only good thing i've seen so far, is that Outkast is the music guest on the next show..

unfortunately, we'll have to sit through Kelly Lee Ripa...

wasn't there a rule that performers on SNL had to sing live and not lip sync..?

that was AWFUL lip syncing. what was up with what she was wearing anyhow?

I love Halle's "Hey, did you hear the Yankees are in the world series"... gee really, you don't say.

I thought it was a rule that pop stars had to dance, not perform mime routines.

Besides, as we all know, Britney says she sings all the time, and never lip syncs...

Oh yeah, the gag about launching the Chinese rocket into space was the funniest thing I've seen all night.

Edit: Has anyone noticed that Fred Arminstan (sp?) has become multi-ethic impersoniator? Last season, he did a Cuban, this show, he did both an Indian and a Japanese character.

I give this episode a good thumbs up, despite the fact that it fell apart in the last 30 minutes.

Kobe Bryant
Pretty funny with Maya Rudolph as the angry wife.
"I hate that!"
"Know what I hate? I hate going to my husband's rape trial!"

Monologue
You just knew there was going to be kissing humor. I would like to have seen it though. Britney is about as unnatural an actress as can be. And I haven't seen lip-synching done this poorly since American Bandstand.

Gaystrogen commercial
Same-sex kissing here! Between Parnell and Armisen.

Don Zimmer
Very funny with Sanz channeling Lou Costello as Zimmer. I just wish he wouldn't crack himself up all the time.

Donatella Versace Halloween
Another laugh out loud sketch. I always love the Donatella skits.
"Trick or treat!"
"I have some candy cigarettes for you. Here's the candy, and here's the cigarettes. Now GET OUT!"

Telelink commercial
Clever, but not really funny.

Quick Ones commercial
Following up a recorded commercial parody with a live one? Okay bit.

BAPS in the Japanese restaurant
Finesse Mitchell was hilarious here. I can see him being a breakout star.

National Enquirer Sunday delivery
ANOTHER commercial parody? Let's keep it to a minimum here.

Weekend Update
Okay jokes, and I really like Armisen as the Native American comedian. Low point of the whole show with (who else) Sanz yukking it up with Fallon as a Cubs fan. Enter George Wendt, about as obese as I've ever seen him, and they kill the show with babbling.

Klymaxx
No, not very good. It might've been funny if anyone even remember Klymaxx.

Tom Brokaw
Not bad, I suppose, but it deserved its late spot.

Ashford & Simpson
No point, and no jokes.

Speed reader
Did anyone NOT see that last joke coming?

Next week: The Best of Tracy Morgan

11/01/03 - Kelly Ripa - Yummy!

Honk!

Other then the opening Kobe skit I didn't think it was that good.

I can't remember a skit as bad as the last one.

Forgot to add, SNL is now 2-1 for the season in my book. We're cooking with gas now!

All I saw were the last 2 sketches.

So it's confirmed...the Keenan and Kel idiot is a part of the cast. I guess they needed more "color" on their show to meet with NAACP guidelines.

The show started off strong with Kobe's wife. The Gaystrogen commercial was funny. Also, I liked the Versace skit as usual. It went downhill from there. Last week, we had the Gibb brothers. Tonight, we had Klymaxx (come on) and then Ashford and Simpson. Commercial overload tonight. The others weren't funny. Speed reader is a fine example of a SNL skit that goes nowhere and makes you wonder what the hell the writers were thinking.

And damn it, Britney, your (lip)sincging gig is up. Blah songs. Head straight to Playboy now.

I loved the opening skit, but the rest was definitely not up to par.

I am looking forward to Kelly Ripa though. I have a huge crush on her...

There was an actual Klymaxx?? Wow, if it was anything like they portrayed on SNL, I might have to find this... would be a great laugh.

Edit: Wow. Just click on this link.

Yeah, Klymaxx did have some hits in the 80's. I Miss You and Meeting in the Ladies Room are just a few. But oscure reference for most people. Man-sized Love was a great track. Only thing is SNL just sticks them in some skit and it supposed to make sense and be funny.

HAHAH The women in that picture are NOT Klymaxx...

This is the real group

They had several hits and their music was really funky. One of the first all girl R&B acts (they played thier own instruments).

You can pretty much see that SNL got them dead-on but, if you were unfamiliar withthe group, I could definitely see where this skit would not be funny.

That Britney "performance" was an embarrassing mess.

I don't even know what it was supposed to be.

Awful. just awful.

Dude,

The Japanese restaurant sketch was that black guys, "Black People at Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" routine in a Japanese restaurant. Complete with cheering, mentioning birthdays, and I think they had the same names.

The Klymaxx sketch would have been MUCH more funny if I knew they were real .

That's what I mean. Many viewers are too young to know who they were. Great publicity for that group though.

I also have a huge crush on Kelly Ripa.

Britney, go away. You are just pathetic.

Halle looked better than I think I've ever seen her. Long hair helps, ladies!

Liked: Indian Comedian, Gaystrogen, Chinese Rocket joke.
Average or Disliked: Everything else.

I hate Halle's long hair. I think it was always short for a reason.

"Kobe, do you see this? Do you want this? Do you want this? Well, you ain't never gonna get this no more?"

I thought the first hour was great, then the last half hour was pathetic... except for the speed reader...

Just a question though... how can they get together an hour and a half of good stuff for a Best of Tracy Morgan episode (without having it be 80% of the Astronaut Jones)?
