Friends 10/2/03

Chandler had the juicy parts in this episode. How many more secrets could he let slip out in a 22 minute episode?

I hadn't expected to see Giovanni Ribisi reprise his role has Phoebe's brother, with the triplets in tow. Their exchange (about dumping one of the trips unto Phoebes) was pretty amusing. Ribisi nervousness and overwrought nerves of having to deal with triplets was also funny.

Ross was in so much pain that his reaction to Joey and Rachel was spot on for Ross. Joey was being a good friend to Ross, and respectful to his feelings.

Groucho 10-03-03 08:43 AM

I was hoping Debra Jo Rupp would make an appearance as well, but no dice.

scrubneck 10-03-03 09:16 AM

That was quite possibly the worst episode of Friends ever. The parts with Ross were downright painful for me.

hotaru_san 10-03-03 09:27 AM

some parts were painful for me, too

I think it's great the Joey is such a good friend, but the Joey/Rachel plot seems to be dragging and it just didn't seem to be a very funny episode.
Chandler and Frank Jr. were both pretty funny, but not enough to carry the episode.

Chew 10-03-03 09:28 AM

I'm just happy this show is going to be done this year.

The funny left, the pain increased.

hgar78 10-03-03 09:42 AM

ribisi was great. chandler was pitch perfect. agree that ross was too over-the-top but, oh, well, i still enjoy the show!

Meteu185 10-03-03 09:42 AM

Agree with the above - I stopped watching and just made sure I was back on NBC by 8:30 for Scrubs.

kevin75 10-03-03 09:45 AM

that was the first full episode that i have watched in awhile but it wasn't too bad. the chandler of last night was very much like the chandler of old. :)

Draven 10-03-03 09:53 AM

One of the better episodes I've seen in a while. Really looks like they are giving it their all for the last season.

Ross was very "Ross" about the whole thing, but totally redeemed himself at the end by admitting that it was time for him to move on. It was a very sweet and nice moment for both Ross and Joey.

LOVED Phoebe and Frank Jr.'s part (they really made him look like hell), and Chandler was hilarious with the adopted kid.

"We have to leave RIGHT NOW!"

the narrator 10-03-03 10:14 AM

Chandler owned the show last night..that's for certain

the whold Ross, Rachel, Joey thing was terrible terrible terrible

Exactly my thoughts. Chandler made that episode last nite. The Ross, Rachel and Joey thing I can do without. They just made it seem too awkward like the actual actors didn't really want to play those scenes either.

Yup. "Filler" and "excuse episode" came to mind.

This episode was designed to:

- sow the seeds for getting rid of Charlie

- sow the seeds for getting the Joey & Rachel relationship to NO start instead of a rocky one. Leading up to the "Joey Show" next season
Spoiler:
which has ruined the romance from the get-go with the announcement including that "no other 'Friends' will be in it." -rolleyes-

- sow the seeds for Phoebe & Mike's family potential WITHOUT re-tapping the Phoebe "you think they'll let me have one" storyline from a previous season's subject

Overall a mish-mash mess that left the Chandler story the best with an occassionaly Monica cleanliness-obsessiveness zinger thrown in here and there.

[Tirade]THIS IS WHY THE BRITISH TV SITCOM 6-EPISODES-MAKE-A-SEASON WORKS! They would NEVER have made this episode! It would have been a 5 minute blip on the season screen.[/Tirade] I know - that probably should have been in the "Coupling" thread, but I ain't even GOIN' there, k?;)

MrX 10-03-03 10:38 AM

ok episode

The Chandler stuff was great as was Phoebe and Frank.

I didn't think the Ross stuff was great but it wasn't that bad either.

Kal-El 10-03-03 11:04 AM

I still don't see the Rachel/Joey chemistry. I just don't. Please let that storyline be over with already and get Ross and her back like everybody knows will eventually happen anyway.

bboisvert 10-03-03 11:28 AM

Yeah, it's pretty obvious just from the performances that even the actors don't buy this relationship. And if Ross getting drunk and acting like an ass is the best comedy they can mine from the situation, best to just move on and end it.

The Antipodean 10-03-03 11:53 AM

I'm just glad they finally remembered Phoebe even HAD triplets. Kind of like Rachel's baby, they just disappeared completely from the show after their initial appearance. Hell, Marcel the monkey will be turning up again next!

While Ross was over-the-top, it also wasn't terribly out of character for him as he's been established over the years.

Cheddarmuff 10-03-03 11:59 AM

This was one of the best episodes yet...Phoebe's brother is frickin hilarious... "I haven't slept in four years"...

I agree Chandler was like a spigot pouring out secrets at a record pace...

Spooky 10-03-03 12:01 PM

Friends should have left the air two seasons ago when it was still funny. Last year was painful to watch...this year (so far) even moreso.

The only happy ending now would be for Joey to kill the rest of them in the final show.

kantonburg 10-03-03 12:46 PM

I have to agree. Chandler is the only funny character left. Ross is from time to time but the drunk angle just didn't work.

Charlie Goose 10-03-03 01:52 PM

I liked drunk & insane Ross, but I also do not see a romantic chemistry between Joey and Rachel.
Ribisi was great as a worn out Frank. "Don't wake up! Oh god, please don't wake up!"

Chandler: "I'm going to go find Emma and tell her she was a mistake." rotfl

Michael Corvin 10-03-03 04:45 PM

I just hope they abandon this joey/rachel thing quick.

Rachel is Ross' lobster. ;)

No doubt. This Joey and Rachel thing's not gonna work out at all. What's w/ Joey anyway? He's a freaking actor, he can get all the whores he wants, but nooo, he had to mess w/ Rachel. And all this started w/ him mistakenly proposing to Rachel. The idiot. Give Rachel back you bastard.

movieking 10-03-03 05:16 PM

After hearing about this episode from some people who thought it was hilarious, I didn't find it that funny. We have had numerous episodes where Chandler blurts out things that gets him in trouble. And that Rachel and Joey might break up over Ross's feelings is weak..

immortal_zeus 10-03-03 06:57 PM

I guess I'm in the extreme minority because I thought this episode was pretty great. Chandler was great and I thought Ross was pretty funny, too.

Giovanni Ribisi is always great in anything he does.
