Overall, I like the show. Liked John Ritter's real life son as the injured son on the show.

I know this is TV and everything, but why does God have to appear to Joan in order for her to do something? Why not just be God and instill the idea and force her to get the job at the bookstore. Perhaps this could be a plot issue later, as in, "why me, why Joan"- why does God have to appear to her? Something particular about her? I'm probably look at this too deeply, its just TV.

It would be cool if all the things God ask Joan to do for each episode will add up to something meaningful by the end of the season when the whole picture is pieced together. That would be cool if the writers plan it that way.

I really liked this show. It was... clever. They need to work on the Cop segments, or at least the way they work it into the show.

I think they hyped this show all wrong. The only character i ever saw in the promo's was Joan... I was pelased to see the supporting cast had Malluci and Joey Zasa.

Taped it, saw it, liked it. Will conitnue taping/watching it.

From the promos, I'd assumed that the gimmick of the show was supposed to be ambiguous about whether Joan actually sees anyone at all or whether she's really schizophrenic. But the pilot episode seemed to shoot that down really fast. Too bad, as it could have been an interesting angle.

I fear the show will quickly devolve into Touched By An Angel for teens.

I tuned thinking it was going to be like TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, then as I'm watching and the scene comes up when that creepy looking "Christain Slater" look alike says he's God and mentions Islam, I knew this was just a liberal's show on God that will have no Judu-Christain point of view.
I won't be watching.

Lucky for you, PAX exists.

wow, I didn't know Amber Tamblyn was in The Ring. She looks totally different w/ long dark hair.

movieking 10-05-03 02:41 PM

Anyone catch the second episode? Just got a chance to watch the second one, and it was pretty good. Strange to hear Joe Mategna's voice and not see Fat Tony on the screen though.

Every time I see Amber Tamblyn, she gets even hotter.

Does anyone know who was doing the version of "Back In The High Life Again" at the end of the show?

I was thinking the same thing when I was watching it.

I thought it was good.

The only problem I have is the police stuff feels out of place. I know her actions from what god tells her leads to events that cause them to solve the case but it still doesn't seem like it fits in.

AAARRRRGGGGHHHH  damn you, movieking...I wasn't even paying attention to that...and now that you pointed it out, I CAN'T.STOP.HEARING.FAT.TONY.

And, I can't think of Amber that way...i've been seeing her since she was 11 or so...same thing with Drew Barrymore..

Yeah, major Katie Holmes-vibe from Tamblyn. She can carry this series.

As for the song at the end, it sounded a lot like Warren Zevon to me.

I gave it two episodes but now I'm out. AmTam may be a little hottie, but the show is definitely too Touched by an Angel for my tastes.

fujishig 10-06-03 01:04 PM

I'm finding it really hard to get a handle on this show. The only character in the family I find likeable is "Fat Tony." I know this is a teen show and all, but the angst is out there. The crippled brother is getting on my nerves (though his depiction of a boy who lost his legs may be an accurate one, I wouldn't know). The mother lets her kids talk back to her and never really gets upset. The nerdy brother really seems out there... he's almost a parody of a nerd, but it's not a comedy show. Then we get introduced to Joan's friends... a tomboy who comes to school but comes late to every single class, doesn't care about homework, but somehow doesn't get expelled. And the guy who everyone thinks is on drugs, but he uses that as a cover so the VP won't find out his secret: that he makes sculptures out of junk. And they're both geniuses, they just don't apply themselves.

And then Joan the catalyst. Is God going to appear every time and wrap up the plotlines? In one sentence, he explained how the whole police arsonist investigation related to Joan's "task", something we as the viewers would be hard pressed to find out ourselves. "Well, Joan, you going to AP Chem got sculpture boy in your house; sculpture boy meets and likes your dad; sculpture boy tells his dad, who's the janitor at the station; scupture boy's dad tells the janitor at the fire marshall's office that Joan's dad is cool; janitor at the fire marshall's office tells arson investigator that Joan's dad is cool; arson investigator, the brother in law of the fire marshall, decides to give Joan's dad evidence to convict his brother in law."

I know God works in mysterious ways, but geez. I'll give it one more episode before I get rid of the Season Pass. Can anyone tell me why they like it so far?

I thought it was pretty clear that Joan didn't know those two very well until she got assigned as a lab partner with them.

'God' said she wouldn't always know the effects of her actions, and she wasn't told what was good about her finding a job in the pilot. So I'm guessing there won't always be a wrap up from God, although I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of each show it's made clear to us 2 or 3 positive things that came out of her actions that week even if Joan doesn't know them herself.

I think I like the characters a bit more than you seem to. The older brother in particular. There have been several good scenes with him in these first two episodes.

However, there is one main concern that I do have with the show so far- that after only two shows I'm already seeing a pattern: Joan does something that God tells her to, then she winds up helping 1) her brother take a step towards coping with his disablility and 2) her father catch a criminal. Hopefully next weeks show will break this pattern, or else this show is going to be way too predicable. Have her 'help' her younger brother, or even a total stranger that she never meets or something.

But, hey, it's good to see that Malucci (from ER) has a job again.

Heh, I keep expecting Dr. Weaver to walk in and shout, "Grow up, Malucci!"

Decent show so far, but it seems like it will be God giving Joan mysterious tasks with ripple effects that won't be clear to anyone until God comes back at the end and explains it all to her and us.

movieking 10-06-03 05:35 PM

I loved it when Joan kept telling God that he was mean after he would reveal embarassing secrets about her. That was pretty funny. I don't really like the side stories with either of her brothers yet, and you can never trust Fat Tony...

Soooo... we have one person not watching it because it is too much like Touched by an Angel and another not watching because it is not enough like Touched by an Angel.

FuzzyBallz 10-06-03 11:54 PM

Oh man, this thread's getting more disturbing by the post.

Anyway,
