[TiVo] ER starts at 8:59, but I want to record CSI from 8-9. What do to?

Freaking ER. It officially starts at 8:59 PM (CST) according to TiVo, so trying to record any show from 8-9 PM pulls up a conflict. I can't set CSI to end shorter, only longer, and I can't set ER to start later, only sooner. Is there some sort of manual "record from this time to this time on this channel" function I can use?

Edit: Okay, I found it... but it will still stop recording at 8:55 PM. Is there any way I can take it out to 8:59?

Yes, there is. I'm going by memory here, so if I'm off, don't sue me!

Go to "Pick programs to record." Select "Record by time and channel." It should allow you to set up a manual recording from 9-10, and that would resolve your conflict.

I do this with "The Daily Show" so I only get the 11oclock airing.

Hope this helps.

<edit> The manual recording will only allow 5-minute increments, but if you want it to start right on the hour, you should be fine.

I don't have one of these things yet, but aren't they capable of recording two shows at once..?

And it wouldn't surprise me if NBC wasn't doing this out of spite or something since CSI creator Anthony Zuiker said "the last frame of CSI's season premiere will be the biggest surprise of the franchise history"

Honestly, stop watching e.r. I made the decision a while ago that I'm not going to play this game with the networks. I don't like being bullied, and I'd just rather be stubborn about it.

As mentioned, though, you can do a manual Record By Time and Channel to get around this.

NBC has been doing this with ER most of last season as well.

Since I have multiple ReplayTVs, I do have them broken down into channel ranges, so I don't run into this problem as I record all of the NBC Thursday shows on one ReplayTV, and just record all of the CBS Thursday shows on another one.

Oh, duh. I can manually record ER's time to go right on the hour. Silly me with my inflexible thinking.

I'm not a Nielsen family, so not watching ER doesn't really send a message to NBC or anything. I AM taking it off my Season Pass list, though.

I've also been trying to figure out how to not clog my Now Playing list with The Daily Show... only keeping two shows at a time doesn't seem to help, but this will. Thanks!

I am just about done with ER. I will maybe give it 2 or 3 episodes, but I think I should just bite the bullet and let it go.

Manual record will work, but because it is NBC you can be guaranteed, that it will really start even earlier and probably end later too.

my directivo just records NBC from 7:58-11:02 the only way to do it

And then records CSI and without a trace.

Nope. But neither can a VCR.

[self-righteous DirecTivo owner]Mine does. [/self-righteous DirecTivo owner]

I can't tell you how annoying it is to watch live tv. The only excuse for that is flipping around college football games to participate in the CFB thread on Saturdays!

Way to support a fellow Aggie, dickhead.

And come on, that was a DirectTV thread! It didn't concern me! And yeah, I know about the TiVo Community, but I like TV Talk better.

ER is still on? I quit watching after Sherri Stringfield left. The monkey's got it right, just don't watch it and you won't have to worry about it. The only "Must See TV" for me anymore is Scrubs...at least on Thursday

My TiVo had a nice message today telling me that NBC sucks and I should only watch their shows tonight if I want to burn in Hell for all eternity. OK, so it was a bit more diplomatic than that, but that's the way I read it in my mind.

I say the hell with NBC on Thurs. They are doing this to get people to watch NBC and only NBC on Thurs. If everyone boycotts them their little plan would backfire.

Ahh, who am I kidding. I have two directivo's and the LA and NY network feeds so I can record all the shows I want!

also since friends ended 5 min early, maybe everything else will start earlier as well.

and i think you have to have directtivo with duel tuners to have two programs on at once.
