Firefly won an Emmy???

For outstanding visual effects for a series! What the hell? Granted it's not best drama, but the show still won an Emmy. If it were still on perhaps more viewers would check it out. Frickin' Fox management.

Ok, the DVD set arrives on December 9th.

What's even better: it beat three Enterprise episodes.

Venusian 09-22-03 08:28 PM

there are quite a few shows that have won emmy's after they've been canceled.

Or all but been canceled (e.g. Futurama for Best Animated Series last year).

I'm not sure the category of Visual Effects wil get many people to watch it (if it was still on). Since the show is over, an award won't do anything for it. If anyone gets any good things because of the emmy, it would be the effects company.

On a related note, from another forum:

Fox's new Friday night lineup premiered this past Friday, and this is what the Futon Critic had to say about it ratings-wise:

"As expected, FOX's new Friday lineup arrived with a thud as the bows of "Wanda at Large" (4.1/7), "Luis" (3.3/6) and "Boston Public" (4.3/7) finished a combined fourth place for the night in the metered markets. All three were off a total of 31% from last year's fall openers of "Firefly" (4.9/8 on 9/20/02) and "John Doe" (6.8/12 on 9/20/02) with "Wanda" and "Boston" both posting their last watched first-run episodes to date. Among adults 18-49, "Wanda" (1.9) and "Luis" (2.0) finished dead last among the four major networks while "Boston" snagged a third place finish (2.3) according to fast national data. A year ago "Firefly" and "John Doe" won the night in the key demographic. Yes kids, it's the start of a long year for FOX on Friday nights."

So Firefly beats that darling of Fox, Boston Public, in the same time slot. Heck John Doe did even better.

Boston Public is "the darling of Fox"? You're seriously mistaken. Otherwise, it wouldn't have been moved to Friday night.

That's true, but it does appear that Boston Public gets a lot of marketing from Fox. It seems every commercial break has one Boston Public spot.

Rypro 525 09-23-03 08:14 PM

actually I think 24 is fox's darling show. same time spot, lots of ad coverage, high rated shows are put before it, and its not been the highest in the ratings.

Venusian 09-23-03 09:10 PM

but 24 brings in revenue from DVD sales and stuff...

i think its one of Fox's highest rated shows...after Simpsons and reality crap

I figured the move was due to incompetence, not forethought. The reason I said that was the seemingly endless barrage of Boston Public advertising. Perhaps it has settled down a bit now. I don't really watch the channel anymore.

Hell one of the advertising points (it can be found on the back cover of the DVD) is that "My Big Fat Greek Life" won an Emmy for Best Cinematography.
