I'm still not totally sure what to think of this show, but I found tonights episode more entertaining than last week. Maybe it was just because of the topic. That Francisco guy or whatever his name is is WIERD. It seemed like they had less of a focus on the real people and more on the actors. And what was up with the ending?

Ending? What's up with the whole show? Took almost a half hour to convey less than what a show like The West Wing, if they were to have an off the cuff conversation about the RIAA, could sum up in a couple sentence exchange.

Looks like I'll be reserving 10 p.m. Sunday viewing to The Practice and/or The Lyon's Den...

I gave it a second chance, but that is it. And I like politics.

I agree, I think it's awful. And I'm big into politics.

I love this show! I am really enjoying it every week and I think it's just great. I love Soderbergh and I find his sense of humor really funny. The whole thing with Francisco describing his Ice Cube ad had me rolling.

I am finding the topical nature of this show really fascinating and fresh every week. I love politics and I think it is amazing the number of "real" people that are participating in this.

So far I am loving this show and only so-so on Carnivale.

I liked this week's topic, but felt it was handled poorly. If they had given both sides of the argument to file sharing I might have liked it, but instead they pretty much focused on "file-sharers are bad, the RIAA is the greatest thing ever."

However I did like the weird guys Ice Cube ad. He's the best part of the show, but I can't remember where else I have seen him.

I thought they gave the other side of the issue when they showed the focus group and all the kids expressed pro-file-sharing views.

Yes but the kids weren't exactly shown in a positive light. They mostly took opinions from the obnoxious kid. They had ONE good argument from the girl who said that she still supports the bands through concerts, but that was it.

Personally I ceased buying cd's in '93. The reason was because I got fed up buying albums after hearing a song or two and then found I didn't care for the album. Out of the 100 or so cd's I bought in that time period I can count on one hand that I felt was worth it. Part of that is my poor ability to pick albums at the time and part the inability to be exposed to anything but well known bands unless you spend a decent amount of effort.

I have never had broadband but if I did I would have gladly downloaded a bunch of songs. Would that mean that I would have bought less albums from some bands due to getting the songs for free? Yes. It would have also meant I would have bought a boatload more than I have otherwise since the radio, tv, and DirecTV music stations pretty much play the same things over and over and unless I want to make music one of my main hobbies (conveniently movies took over that place in '92) that the likelihood of my buying more albums that I don't like to get a few that I do are stacked heavily in the latter. The songs that I would have gotten for free would have been ones that I would never get near an album of the artist other than a song here or there. The labels do not provide a means to purchase them via them or even listen via them using self destruct methods that would allow one to try artists other than mass played ones.

Of course all of that is coming from someone that hasn't touched music in a decade and the majority of the mass produced stuff isn't meant for me anyway so they probably could care less about getting me back as a customer. Perhaps the business model yields higher returns keeping the status quo as is with people buying ten albums in order to find a couple worthwhile then allowing potential customers to have free access to self destructing music, buy individual songs direct from labels at pro-rated costs (taking into account that the customer has to search, download, and burn their own), reasonable monthly memberships like Netflix that allows a certain number of complete albums/songs, etc.
