R.I.P.: John Ritter

He was only 54.
TV Sitcom Star John Ritter Dead

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor John Ritter, who gained fame playing bumbling and lovable characters in a pair of television comedies decades apart, has died, a representative said on Friday.

Details of the circumstances of his death were not immediately available.

Ritter was best known for his portrayal of Jack in the 1970s situation comedy "Three's Company" and recently he starred in the series "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," a centerpiece of broadcaster ABC's upcoming fall schedule.

John Ritter was the son of country singer and actor Tex Ritter.

That's what i'm wondering too...i'm also wondering how he died. I heard this on the news while i've been sitting at the computer. The reporter said right now the cause of death was unknown.

What makes it even more tragic [IMO] is [besides the fact he was an almost constant presence in during my life -- Three's Company, Hooperman, Fish Police, Skin Deep, Stay Tuned & one of my favourite JR flicks Hero At Large], he seemed like a genuinely nice person..

Don't forget that spin-off he had where he was unmarried living with that chick and there was Larry and Jack's Bistro, etc. His sig. otter on that show was hot.

man, I loved Three's Company

You will be missed, John....

Apparently he died from a dissection of his aorta.

(CNN) -- Actor and comedian John Ritter has died unexpectedly after he was rushed to the hospital for a "dissection of the aorta," his publicist Lisa Kasteler told CNN.

very, very sad. What is even worse is his 55th birthday was next week, and his daughters birthday is today

How sad to have a birthday on the same day your father died

Here's an updated report on what happened. Farewell, John - you were a talented comedian that truly provided fans with a lot of laughs!

(CNN) -- Actor and comedian John Ritter has died unexpectedly after he was rushed to the hospital for a "dissection of the aorta," his publicist Lisa Kasteler told CNN.

Ritter, who would have turned 55 next week, was the star of the ABC series "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."

In a statement, Kasteler said Ritter was rushed to the hospital after suffering from an unrecognized and undetected flaw in his aorta.

Surgeons at the hospital tried to save the Emmy Award-winning actor but were unable to do so, the statement said.

WebMD.com described an aortic dissection as "an abnormal separation of tissues within the walls of the aorta" caused by high blood pressure, family history of the condition, disease of connective tissue, or severe trauma to the chest.

"Aortic dissection results in a weakened blood vessel wall that may also rupture," the Web site says.

Ritter was best known for his role as Jack Tripper on the long-running television sitcom, "Three's Company."

He was the youngest son of Western film star and country music legend Tex Ritter, according to his biography on ABC's Web site.

John Ritter was born on September 17, 1948. He is survived by his wife, Amy Yasbeck, and their daughter, Stella, and three children -- Carly, Tyler and Jason -- from his first marriage to Nancy Morgan.

Yeah, surprise here too. Not much to say, not a fan or anything... but when someone like Bob Hope dies, it's something you expect. This is just out of left field...

I am in shock!

Just heard it on the news and I was completely stunned.

He will forever be remembered for Three's Company.

He will be missed.

P.S. Three's Company is rumored to be released on DVD sometime next year.

P.S. 2
Johnny Cash has also died, he was 71.

Jesus. I guess if there's anything positive to take from this, it's that he got one more great primetime series before departing. 8 Simple Rules ... was a legitimate return to glory for him and was probably the funniest straight sit-com last season.

Man, what a complete shock. He will be missed.
