UPDATED: 5:50 p.m. EDT September 9, 2003
SAN MARCOS, Texas -- Veteran actor, comedian, writer and teacher Larry Hovis died Tuesday following a battle with cancer. He was 67.
Hovis was perhaps best known for his role as "Sgt. Carter" in the long-running and now syndicated television series "Hogan's Heroes." He also had a regular role on "Gomer Pyle USMC" and was a co-creator and performer on "The Rowan and Martin Laugh-In," one of the cutting-edge television shows of its day.
At the time of his death, Hovis was a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Texas State University-San Marcos. He had been employed at the university since 1990 and taught acting and characterization.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the main theater of the Theatre Center at Texas State University-San Marcos.
This is sad

That's too bad. I did a quick search, and found out that there are only a handfull of cast members still alive:
Robert Clary (LeBeau)
Richard Dawson (Newkirk)
Ivan Dixon (Kinchloe)
IMDB didn't have much info on Kenneth Washington (Baker), Leon Askin (Burkhalter), Jon Cedar (Langenscheidt ), Cynthia Lynn (Helga) or Sigrid Valdis (Hilda), so they may be gone as well. Sad indeed.

Too bad.
Larry Hovis always made me laugh with his impersonations of Hitler on Hogan's Heroes. One of my favorite comedies growing up.
I didn't even hear about this one till today. Man, what a tough year for celebs. Johnny Cash and John Ritter today too.

Hogan's Heroes is still one of my all time favorite shows. It's a shame that almost all of the cast members are dead.
Larry Hovis was hilarious on the show, and the show wouldn't have worked as well without him.
I heard about this while driving home. The CBS radio newsbreak started playing the Hogans Heroes theme and I knew someone had died.
On a related note, I saw Werner Klemperer on the Channel 5 Morning News, and then about 2 months later he died. He seemed VERY healthy and in good shape, but you never know.
They need to put Hogan's Heroes out on DVD.

It is kinda neat.. HDTV shows Hogan's Heroes in Hi Definition. Marc Cuban has taken the original transfers and up converted them... pretty nice.
