FRIENDS question re: "Duck" and "Chick"

I was just watching season 4 of Friends and realized that the Duck and the Chick seem to disappear in later seasons without explanation. Did I forget about an episode where they explain what Joey and Chandler did with them? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I've had this same question. I think they just disappear: just like Ben and Phoebe's triplets.

Well you know how Joey loves to eat...

They reappear in later seasons.

I can specifically remember Rachel dealing with them when she briefly lived with Joey.

I realize/recall that, but they seem to disappear for good once Emma arrives.

I think the Chick, Duck, Triplets, Emma, and Ben are all living together.

I'd watch that show.

Maybe it will be the next spinoff.

The duck is actually a metaphor of Chandler. When the duck disappeared, it was because in real life, Matthew Perry was being treated for his drug problem. He was in the quackhouse. Moreover, he was no longer being funny and thus the duck disappeared. Not to mention the stranger-than-coincidence fact that Matthew Perry actually has webbed feet in real life.

By the same token, the chick is a metaphor of Monica, who had also ceased to be funny. When the chick disappeared, it was symbolic of the disappearance of Courteney Cox's funny lines. Furthermore, this was around the time that Cox got married to David Arquette and there were rumors that she wanted to have a baby--hence, a baby chick. See how it all comes together?

There was an A&E show with one of the ex-writers of Friends who explained all of this. He had become disgruntled with the direction of the show and thus he threw in these symbols as a sort of backlash against the producers.

SisterS, actually. She had a younger and an older, I believe.

Actually, one of the producers (I think that it was Marta Kauffman) explained the whole chick/duck thing on a season 4 commentary. She said that they indeed never did resolve what happened to them, aand we should assume that they still live in J & C's apartment somewhere.

I know I'll sleep better at night

Liked the duck.
Never really warmed to the chick.

One of the best lines (when Chandler had the psycho roommate, if I recall correctly): "Step away from the duck!"
