Brace yourself. Here comes the 1st Annual "Reality Awards" this Fall.
Looks like the "reality" genre won't be going away as soon as I'd hoped. From TelevisionWeek (tvweek.com):
'Reality Awards' to Air on ABC
Broadcast and cable prime-time reality shows will face off during the first "Reality Awards," set to air on the ABC Network this fall. Don Mischer, who will produce his eighth "Primetime Emmy Awards" telecast later this month, will executive produce the two-hour "Reality Awards" through his company Don Mischer Productions. An entertainment industry blue-ribbon panel of nearly 200 people will choose nominees, and television viewers will vote to determine final winners using an Internet balloting system. The kudos aim to honor network and cable prime-time reality and alternative series and specials, according to a news release from ABC. "Best Series," "Most Memorable Moment" and "Best Twist" are among the planned categories. The first "Reality Awards" will cover programming that aired in the 2002-03 season, including the summer of 2003.

While I actually enjoy a lot of reality shows, this just sounds like a waste of time. "Best Twist"? Maybe a cute idea for an Entertainment Weekly column or something, but as a televised ceremony who cares? I'm sick of all the non-movie award shows anyway. Why not just make the Latin Billboard Ace awards and be done with it?

Another award show? You realize, of course, that if they keep adding award shows at the current rate, eventually all of us will be eligible for something.....

I hope they have an awards show for Best Awards Show.
Once that happens--and once TV Guide publishes it's TV Guide's 100 Greatest TV Guide Lists--we can all die happy.

Here are my tentative picks:
Best Series: "America at War"
Best Twist: Elizabeth Smart found alive!
Most Memorable Moment: when Uday and Qusay Hussein were killed
This is a show for reality TV, right?

Great just what the average viewer needs more crap like this to clog up the television schedule. I wonder what show or sporting event they will preempt to show this garbage.
