south park being edited for syndication!?

personally don't know how they can pull it off.

Recently relaunched TV syndicator Debmar Studios has bought the rerun rights to Comedy Central's South Park and plans to clean up the third graders' language and sell the shows to broadcast TV stations. Debmar is owned by Mort Marcus, who once headed Buena Vista Television, Disney's syndication unit, and who went on to become the No.2 man at Disney's go.com web portal. Marcus told today's (Thursday) Los Angeles Times that of 140 South Park episodes produced thus far only about 10-12 cannot be edited for broadcast. Of the 130 that remain, he added, "we're clipping a couple words."

Let me guess: It Hits the Fan might be at the top of that list.

What a bunshole.

5 years ago no way. Now, I can see what use to be "extreme comedy" passing on network TV. Most of the episodes probably don't have to be edited that much. At least it will be better than the barrage of Home Improvement, Drew Carey, Roseanne and other the other crap that covers the wastelands of syndication.

How the heck are they going to show "Red Rocket" on afternoon TV (just one of many things that doesn't involve cussing)?

Yippi Kay Yeah, Melon Farmer!

I can't imagine this really being successful, but who knows? No bother to me with having cable and also the DVDs.

It's being syndicated to late-night.

Ya, I doubt they are going to play it between Digi-Mon and Uh Gi Oh.

Frankly I'd have been surprised if it WASNT cut. Name one syndicated show that wasnt trimmed a little bit to squeeze more commercials in. It's not about the content - from Simpsons to Gilligan's Island, everything gets the knife these days.

That is so they can squeeze in more commercials.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but syndicated shows are already cut in order to squeeze in more commericials.

I am always against cutting for the prudes of America, but I'd be curious to see a "bleeped" version of this episode. A neat extra would be showing the calloused finger of the sound engineer who had to push the bleep button 160 times during editing.
