Blockbuster FREE CBS fall preview DVD

I received a mailer yesterday from Blockbuster that included a page about a FREE CBS fall preview dvd available at stores starting Sept. 16th, 2003.

bboisvert 09-04-03 12:34 PM

Here's a page with their fall lineup, as well:

Ah remember the good old days of TV (as in back in the 70s and 80s) when premere week used to be a big deal? The Saturday Morning caroon show on the friday before was the highlight of the fall, and the networks rolling out the new shows used to mean something. Now it's just trickeled out over 6 weeks as the losers fall by the wayside faster than lemmings falling off a wall.

I certainly remember those days. It was nice to have everything premiere in the same week. Now it can be late October or November before the first new episode of some shows.

Cool - I'll have to remember to pick this up.

I remember as a kid, waiting impatiently for the Fall Preview TV Guide to arrive so I could plan out my Saturday morning viewing weeks in advance. They'd have full page ads with the cartoon lineups and I would just about drool in anticipation.

So true. And a very amusing comment.

Of course, if you were like me, you watched Sat morn cartoons as much for the toy commercials as the actual cartoons! As a kid growing up in the late 70's - early 80's, it was all about the Star Wars toys, and they had the coolest commercials!

They are the #1 network. Ever hear of CSI? Or Survivor?

CBS is popular, but not necessarily with the people reading this thread. The age demographics for CBS and DVDTalk do not intersect. :)

I personally watch just one hour a week... CSI. But I wouldn't even list that among my favorite shows. I enjoy it every week, but won't cry too hard whenever it leaves the airwaves...

I'll pick up the free fall preview disc just like I did last year, but based on the link that bboisvert provided, absolutely none of these shows sounds appealing. Even the David E. Kelley production, "The Brotherhood of Poland, N.H.," sounds rather uninteresting. There's not a single show on CBS that I watch currently or can remember viewing in recent years.

By the way, my local Blockbuster has the "24" free preview DVD with the first two episodes of season two. You might want to check BBV if you're having trouble locating the disc elsewhere.

Blockbuster did this last year too. They spent a lot of time promoting CSI Miami. Personally, I'd like all the networks to do this. It will help me decide if I'm going to get into any new shows in the fall season.

I quit watching TV altogether when the onscreen logo nonsense started. I don't care how good the show is, I simply can't enjoy it with the logo staring me in the face.

Sweet, man if Kenner/Hasbro would put all those commercials together on a DVD, they would make a fortune.

You mean the small "bugs" that are in bottom right/left corner of the screen with the station identification logo? They aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

If you "come back" to TV you'll get to enjoy annoying bottom third ads as well that play DURING your favorite shows.

TV should come with inserts too!

Can anyone report what's on the disc?

Well, according to Edison's (the original poster) mailer from Blockbuster, the DVD will not be available until September 16. It will likely feature similar content to last year's "CBS Sneak Peek" disc. Here's an old thread regarding the 2002 one, but there may be other threads if you do a search:

I picked up 2 of these today - 1 for me and one for a friend. They had lots of them on the counter.

dvd-fanman 09-17-03 01:53 AM

Is this the same CBS disc that was in copies of Entertainment Weekly that were sent out to subscribers this past week?

abintra 09-17-03 02:15 AM

Do any other networks release these fall promo dvd's?

Yes, I believe it is. Along with the promos it has some behind-the-scenes features on CSI and CSI:Miami.

I don't know of any other network doing this on DVD.

And yes, those days of waiting for the (old) Fall Preview TV Guide and the start of the season beginning with Saturday morning cartoons were the days. Things just aren't the same. :(
