God damn. Jessica Simpson.

That Justin thing is funny...but hell, I'd be happy to see that, don't know why he looks all pissed. Bitter? I dunno.

SnoopDogg 08-29-03 01:48 AM

Holy crap, simpson is looking fine :)

boredsilly 08-29-03 02:01 AM

Was it just me or were the same 6 people nominated for EVERYTHING!!! Damn that was boring. I'm not ashamed to admit I like Timberlakes music, but damn he is a tool.

If this is a video awards show why not nominate some really impressive videos? I think that Missy is a video artist and deserves to be there, and I liked the concept behing Cry Me a River, but 50 cents "In Da Club" was a terrible video so WTF? Outside of Johnny Cash's & maybe Coldplays videos, none of the nominated videos were moving, powerful, or even remotely groundbreaking.

And I get that the kisses between Madonna, Brit, and Xtina(or whatever she goes by now) was supposed to be shocking and all, but it just came off as..I dunno. I know it didn't have the desired effect MTV probably wanted it to have on me though.

ARG! I really should stay away from this show.

the aftermath 08-29-03 02:07 AM

Check out Mary J Blige behind Timberlake, she looks disgusted. Or maybe she's just jealous ;)

Also, here's a short video clip of Maddona kissing Brit and Aguillera for those interested: Link

immortal_zeus 08-29-03 04:22 AM

I watched the entire show....and pretty much the only good thing about it was Chris Rock. I'm more of a hip hop guy, but I really like that Coldplay song. I think that was the first time I heard it.

I'm surprised Missy Elliott did so well. "Work It" has a good beat, but I can't stand it. I still haven't figured out what the hell she's saying in that one part.

I thought the opening act with Madonna, Britney, and Christina was pretty good. The kisses were hot. Too bad they cut to Justin's reaction and missed part of the Madonna/Christina kiss. I guess it's pretty clear that Britney is shedding her good girl persona.

This was probably one of the worst MTV VMAs that I can remember.

Actually, its just 3 people that are nominated for everything. The Neptunes and Timberland. They write all the music in the music industry now.

She's who I noticed first. And that's exactly how I felt. O.K. Madonna, time to retire the calculating "shock" career moves. Watching her kiss Britney was pretty disturbing to me. This woman was 24 years old when Britney and Christina were born. It would have been far more titillating if those two had kissed.

snob

I'll take phoney lezbo kisses anyway I can get 'em.

cdollaz 08-29-03 08:21 AM

My favorite part was during the Madonna/Britney/Skank part where they sang the line that went something like "I can't stand radio, they play the same old song." HAHAHAHA. How stupid. You owe your career to the fact that radio stations play the same old crap.

Alright, this is always one of my favorite threads on this board, and one of my favorites to reply to. There's nothing like a ridiculously over-the-top, "generation X" awards show.
I would say that last night's show was Generation Y all the way. I was speaking with a friend of mine who is also Gen X (We are both 33.) and there was very little in the show that sparked our interest. We were both completely lost with all of the rap humor. These shows just aren't fun anymore. They are so mean-spirited and depressing. There is so much aggression, but it doesn't seem to be targeted at anything meaningful.

kneijst1 08-29-03 09:48 AM

Luckily, I only watched the first half hour. Chris Rock was awesome, but then once they went to Lebron and Ashanti, I realized the rest was going to suck(as these 2 were HORRIBLE on stage), so I promptly turned it off and popped in a DVD.

Red Dog 08-29-03 10:00 AM

I love Britney in the Like a Virgin outfit. Nice.

Any pics of Jessica Simpson from last night?

Bingo!

And full of artists that have no shot at longevity in their careers whatsoever. I skipped this year's promotion-fest too (although I'm sure I'll catch bits and pieces of it over the next weekend or so inadvertently during channel flips).

So MTV's one stab at showcasing some real musical talent was the lowly Coldplay, who have, at best, maybe one more decent album in them? That's just depressing and sad.

Rypro 525 08-29-03 10:14 AM

I hope coldplay will be around for a while.

Generally I don't like the shorter haircuts, but something about it makes her look even sexier to me. There is a Marylin Monroe quality about it.

PJsig08 08-29-03 11:28 AM

Anyone else find it funny that the picture of Britney kissing Madonna is EVERYWHERE, on every news stand and such, and no one cares about the Christina kiss?

Man, Britney knows how to make news.

Huh?

Lets see Duran Duran is all about Gen X. I was horrified when Avril and Kelly presented them with the lifetime award, because neither one (of the two girls) should be allowed on stage with a band such as that.

Lets not forget what C Rock said about MTV not playing any videos. The little jabs at the Gen Y crowd were great, not enough of them, but they were there.

On a side note, if J Ho was supposed to perform with Madonna and XTina, I have to give it up to Spears for filling in on short notice. But come on that has got to be the worst kept VMA secret in its 20 years. Most of america knew three (3) weeks ago that a "super trio" including Madonna would be performing.

Rypro 525 08-29-03 11:36 AM

i didn't know. (then again, I knew before the show started last year that guns and roses was performing.

It was supposed to be Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears & Madonna...but Jennifer went to Canada instead to finish filming her movie..

I dont think Jlo wouldve been up for the kissing...

Rogue588 08-29-03 12:00 PM

Perhaps that's where the "Have to get back to Canada to finish filming my movie" excuse comes into play..?
