and, as always, there is NO CHANCE i can last til sept/oct without accidentally finding out who wins. every year i try my best to avoid any spoilers but somehow i find out. whether its on tv, internet, radio, newspaper, friend...i always find out despite trying very hard not to.

Another thing I don't like is how, in another nod to channel surfers with short attention spans, SportsCenter has now implemented a list of what they're going to cover similar to PTI, showing the anchors and highlights in a shrunk-down window. A scores/news ticker (that undercut one of the reasons to tune into SC in the first place) was bad enough, now we have to know exactly what's coming and when. Pathetic.

You mean give it a couple months for Norman Chad to get his material ready to write his script and practice being surprised to see hands/results and you can expect it on TV in September/October.

I actually like the list. If turn it there and there is nothing intersting coming up I won't leave on SC. Or if its in the morning and I'm getting ready for work it comes in handy so I know if I want to watch it for a few mins. or do something else.

Does ESPN have some kind of stake in the UFC now? They have been talking about it a lot this past week or two and they never had before.

I agree. I can't tell you how many times in the past they've gone to commercial, saying "coming up, highlights of [insert sporting event/game]". A sporting event/game i'm actually interested in. So I wait til it comes back from commercial, they don't talk about it, then break for commercial AGAIN, and they say the highlights are coming up AGAIN. some times, it's even been as bad as going across 3 or 4 commerical breaks before they finally talk about it. so this list actually shows when they'll finally talk about it.

At some point, SC turned from a sports highlights show to a sports opinion show.

You can expect it to be nothing but quips about his ex-wife.

BTW, I like the list on the side during Sportscenter. It's good on PTI, it's good on whatever Fox Sports' sports wrap-up show is called, and it's good on ESPN.

Hold it right there. Isn't that what Pardon the Interruption, Around the Horn, and The Sports Reporters do?

Yeah and that's what they were always designed to be.

Quake1028 05-29-07 12:03 PM

The main event this year actually runs from 7/7 to 7/17.

who the hell is reading this thing? 99 year olds? people who barely speak english? the blind?

how hard is it to read this thing that they have to leave a score up for 18 seconds? it should be 2 seconds per screen, then scroll to the next. keep it moving people! im able to read everything on a particular screen 12 times before it changes to the next. its fucking horrible and stupid. who runs that thing?

That's why you should tune into the FSN Final Score instead. At least that show is all highlights and none of the fucking jibber jabber and opinion BS that Sportscenter is.

Good news for you then, maybe (depending on your TV service)!

I'm with you on that. I agree - the stats aren't necessary.

We don't get that in our area. Our FSN affiliate is essentially a part-time FSN affiliate.

Why the fuck does Stephen A. Smith has to be so loud when he is on camera? Does his shouting compensate for smaller parts of his anatomy (brain, penis mainly)?

the big train 05-31-07 12:22 AM

Today (Wednesday) they spent 90 minutes dedicating their coverage to Kobe demanding to be traded only to announce at the very end of the show that he'd just gone on record with his intention to stay with the Lakers.

I don't think I have ever witnessed such a waste of airtime in my life.

I saw some of that. It was funny seeing the headline graphic saying he wanted to be traded, while the ticker was saying he didn't.

hes always been like that. and yes i think he is definitely compensating. plus he thinks if he yells it, it makes him more credible or actually makes what hes saying not complete bs...which it always is. has he ever been right? ever?
