How can they depend on her big screen presence to bring in ratings if her grand total of prominent roles amounts to two and one of them being a cameo?
(The prominent ones being Daredevil and CMIYC of course.)

Does this mean they will actually push her to make some more movies?

Where's risk? If more viewers come in, then its a bargain.
If more viewers don't come in, can the show. And its a lot less than they pay Drew Carey an episode and no one is watching that show.

I don't get this? She made Daredevil, appeared in a Spielberg movie, & is currently filming her first starring role in a movie all while being on Alias. But you are right, ABC sure did kill her movie career  How about she wouldn't have a movie career if it wasn't for ABC. And there is so much other precident for your theory. Didn't Ashton Kutcher just have 2 huge hits while also signing a long term TV contract?

Alias is good(albiet a watered down LaFemme Nikita),
D

This doesn't make any sense either. IT seems like you pulled this out of a bad magazine review. So what exactly is "watered down" about Alias. I'm a big fan of both shows, but what was done on Nikita that isn't done on Alias? What makes it watered down?

Rypro 525 08-01-03 08:10 PM

actually I think the ending or season2 will/did turn lots off so the dvd might help the first few episodes of season 3 but when they know and hate the ending, then they won't want to go back (I personally loved the ending, and think it'll work well for the season)

I personally never watched le femme nikita but my dad did and I think it may have been a bit more sexual with the inuendo's and more action in the show.

mookiemeister 08-01-03 08:30 PM

Good news. But I hope they go back to the stuff that worked in season one. Some of the season two episodes weren't as exciting or entertaining as the ones in season one.

Actors do not film a television show all year round.

They have the summer to do anything they want.

Elektra spinoff can be filmed on her time off from Alias.

That's true except the show costs more than just her salary. The article doesn't make it clear, but if they have committed to the show through 2008 that's a significant outlay of cash. Maybe she will only be paid if the show is picked up, then that seems like a good deal all around. As little time as shows get to prove themselves these days, I find it surprising to see a network give a long term commitment to a show which is only a moderate success.

Anyone know any tid bits on season 3? Like when the preimiere date is,
Spoiler:
where in between the two years it starts

They haven't committed to the show through 2008. They can cancel it at anytime. All they have done is sign Jennifer Garner to a contract which says if the show continues through 2008 she will remain its lead actress for that time. If it doesn't continue, she gets severed with the rest of the cast and crew and will only be paid for the work actually completed.

ABC hasn't announced its premiere dates yet, but the Big 3 seem to be favoring premiering shows the last week of September.

And from the casting news that has surfaced, it seems
Spoiler:
the show picks up after the two years....but flashbacks should be more than expected

lisadoris 08-03-03 05:19 AM

A couple sites are listing the premiere date as Sept 28th but nothing is official yet.

Rypro 525 08-03-03 06:31 AM

I guess unless they do alot of "previously on..." stuff, lots of tivos and vcrs will be taping until dec when season 2 hits dvd.

Rypro 525 08-03-03 07:45 PM

Anyone know whos gone for sure/ who's new
I heard that Will didn't get killed because disney liked him, and Evil Francie is gone for sure.

Mark Steven Johnson seems hopefull. He keeps saying Summer 2005. Also, the way he talks about it it's more of a sequel and the next Daredevil film will be part three. Just the vibe I get (like Elektra is meant to continue the story from Daredevil through Elektra's POV and set up a third film were Matt and Elektra share the spotlight rather than have it be a side story a'la Catwoman with Halle Berry).

Here's hoping cos her performance in Daredevil left me wanting more (and I'm not even an Alias/Garner fan).

I imagine every contract is different and you're probably right, but there is a chance you're wrong. The only reason Drew Carey's show was on last year was because if they canceled it, they still would have had to pay Drew his salary. So there is precedent for ABC having that kind of contract.

Patman 08-04-03 07:54 AM

And, contractually speaking, there's one more season of the Drew Carey show left (IIRC)...

There's a lot of precidence for a TV actor making an impact in hollywood and then failing to capitalize either by bad decisions or network interference. The first example that comes to mind is Pierce Brosnan. He was all set to replace Roger Moore as James Bond but NBC decided to hold up his Remington Steele contract. Brosnan was very vocal about it but it didn't matter and Timothy Dalton got the 007 job and Brosnan had to wait a decade before getting another shot. Think about what would'v e happened if Bruce Willis re-upped for another 5 years of Moonlighting. Actually, we can just look at Ted Danson's career to see what happens when you stay on TV instead of following up a hit movie.

After watching a few eps of La Femme Nikita its obvious. Lets see:
-Nikita opted to kill another agent by blowing up an embassy with a day care center in it because she decided the agent 'might' have been compromised.

-An entire family was killed because they overheard Nikita's codename.

-Nearly every episode invovled someone going into a room to be tortured.

-A young boy was kidnapped from his home and forced to help with a mission. He was later killed by Section.

-etc, etc.
I'm sure Alias is gritty in its own way but to say it's on par with the things that went on in LFM is offbase.

And Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones....er, wait....Magnum, PI.

I'm pretty sure that that was not the case. I thought that the network had already renewed the show and that they would still have to pay for the epsodes even if they were never shot.

Actually, he's right and you're wrong.

Every actor on every TV show is signed to either a 5 year or 7 year contract. It is standard. Then, if during that time the actor or the show gets hot, they will renegotiate, giving the actor more money and extending the life of the contract. But this is has nothing to do with the shows being picked up or cancelled.

This deal is no different than Tyne Daly renegotiating on Judging Amy, Martin Sheen on West Wing, Calista Flockhart on Ally McBeal, etc., etc.
