Yes... I'm serious about the Beatles sucking huge amounts of suck. I also deny that they had any influence on anything. I'm sure Michael Jackson's on there too and he sucks too.

This list is even dumber than I thought it'd be. Like Russel Crowe is a Pop Culture icon? Stupid blend of a number of things, none of which work together, and all of which is, unsurprisingly, myopic.

I can't remember the last time I cared about these stupid lists. I can't believe people will sit through hours and hours of, basically, celebrities talking about one person, then the next, then the next, and so on and so forth.

I don't think the list could please everybody, so I don't blame them for making their choices. If VH1 released a list that satisfied your taste, it would probably irritate somebody else. It's a lose-lose situation, I suppose.

And yes, the Beatles and Michael Jackson suck. They never influenced anything at all, and people overrate them. That Elvis guy too - what did he ever do? Like they ever had an effect on popular culture.

I usually like VH1s lists but this one just baffles to no end. I understand that everyone has their opinion but I have to agree. Russel Crowe????

Oh and how did
Justin Timberlake & Kevin Bacon get to be in front of BABE RUTH??!!!??

I mean he was "The Babe"

EVERYONE knows who Babe Ruth was and what was/is to baseball.

I didn't watch it, but I can't imagine anyone would do a pop culture list and not include Star Wars.

For god's sake, Star Wars practically *invented* pop culture. No movie before that ever affected consumer culture in anywhere near the same way. An entire decade's worth of kids call themselves the "Star Wars generation," not for nothing.

I'll also echo those who are metaphorically spitting on anyone who would trash the Beatles. They're the single most important musical act of the last two centuries.

If the Beattles sucked, you little kids wouldn't have anything to watch on MTV today.

How about The Osbournes? Like anyone is going to remember or care about their inane show in 3 years?

Marilyn Monroe or Elvis really should have been number one. They are probably the two best examples of enduring pop culture icons and megastars who have stood the test of time. Much more important overall than Oprah.

The Beatles are ranked behind the cast of Friends, Monica Lewinsky is on the list, no Charlton Heston, no James Bond, and NO STAR WARS.

Are you all upset that the Star Wars trilogy wasn't included, or specific characters that were omitted? Granted, I think Darth Vader or Luke should have been up there, but the list includes only characters and people, not movies.

I'm almost 30... I've always hated the Beatles. At first they were just some sappy empty pop junk - then they became smelly hippies. Bleh. I don't like anything that's on MTV music-wise either, so if I can blame the Beatles for that - all the more reason to dislike em.

You people seem to be unable to grasp just how difficult these lists can be to create.

It's a very delicate balancing act between paying empty lip service to "classics" and sucking up to whoever is "hot" at the moment.

I don't envy the people who must put these together.

I don't know what makes me a tough guy, but since you asked... I like all kinds of stuff. Here's a few examples:

Admiral
Bracket
Burning Airlines
Avail
Jets to Brazil
Samiam
Soul Side
Fuel (the original one, not the MTV name stealers)
Tom Waits
Radiohead
Fugazi
Minor Threat
Girls Against Boys
Lords of Acid
Down By Law
Do As Infinity
Boa
Screeching Weasel
Small Brown Bike
My Pal Trigger
Guitar Wolf
Crimpshrine
Antischism
Schlong
No Use For A Name
None More Black
Lou Reed
Dee Lite
Strike Anywhere
Paint It Black
Descendents
Nausea
Zeke
Lifetime
Screw32
Outcasts
Overcome
Wynona Riders
Born Against
Rise Against
Against Me
Beastie Boys
Monsula
Jawbreaker
Phleg Camp
Jawbox
Operation Cliff Clavin
Mushmouth
Hot Water Music
Milhouse
P.E.D.
Solea
The Broadways
Logical Nonsense
Government Issue
Guttermouth
blah blah etc etc... you get the idea. I'm guessing the Beatles had a big influence on Born Against, Nausea and Antischism, right? Or maybe Logical Nonsense and Mushmouth were big Beatles fans. I don't understand why people can't tolerate someone who dislikes the Beatles. If someone thought my favorite band sucked, I wouldn't insult them.

The difference is, The Beatles weren't just another 'band'. They were, and are, WORLD treasures. NO other group had more influence on music than they did. PERIOD. I'm willing to bet that EVERY group you mentioned WERE, in fact, influenced, directly or indirectly, by The Beatles.

A simple statement that 'The Beatles sucked', can only be viewed as goofy.

If it is, indeed, your true opinion, thats fine. BUT, you're wrong!

I saw a commercial on VH1 Classic for next month's "I love the 70's" shows on VH1.

As far as this list goes, it's one of the strangest I've seen. For some reason, I thought that the number one choice would have at least appeared on a lunch box at one time or another.

And I bet every band on Trigger's list will probably tell you that The Beatles were at least a significant influence if not a huge one for their music and their careers.
