Amazing Race-LEG 7 (7/10)

On the next episode of The Amazing Race:
Spoiler:
We're Going Down the Wrong Side of the Freeway...And the Lights Are Off!
From Dish: One team tries to dismiss the insults of another team; teams face a 26-hour ride in hot train cars.
From TV Guide: Teams must endure a 26-hour ride on a hot, filthy train. Also: two teams opt for bizarre forms of transportation to reach a pit stop. Phil Keoghan is the host.

* One Team nicknames and mocks another Team behind their backs. Will the other Team take the abuse or formulate a harsh response?
* An encounter at a train station moves one of the clowns to tears.
* Teams face the prospect of a nightmare 26-hour train ride in filthy, boiling-hot train cars, with some wondering whether they will be able to endure.
* An awkward, desperate race to the Pit Stop finds two Teams opting for bizarre forms of transportation, when every move could be their undoing and any turn can and will lead to either victory or defeat!

Oh, do we have pet nicknames for David & Jeff, Reichen & Chip, or Kelly & Jon?

RandyC 07-04-03 01:06 AM

Here, we are calling David & Jeff "Team Stealth" since they hardly get any screen time and we keep forgetting they are also in the race. :)

P.S. I noted that when the "dating 12 years, virgins" went onto the crowded train... that when they got off, the text should read "dating 12 years, no longer virgins."

Did one of the other teams call Reichen and Chip, "Chip and Dale"?

Groucho 07-04-03 08:31 AM

I'm putting my chips on Team Implants again. Sooner or later, that bet will pay off.

Flay 07-04-03 09:34 AM

Kelly and Jon are insecure jerks, especially Kelly. I really hope they don't make it to the end, but I have a feeling they will. I'm not pulling for the virgins, but they haven't done anything vindictive to deserve the rassing that they get from K & J.

Go Clowns!

Canis Firebrand 07-04-03 09:47 AM

Well.. I'm voting for the Mole and her partner.

After this past leg, the blondes are seeming to be in it again. They sort of surprised me how well they worked together on screen the last leg.

I'm also not sure how R & C got the nickname chipendales...

Anyways... interesting leg 6 show and looking forward to leg 7.

BDB 07-04-03 12:05 PM

Millie and Chuck get my vote.

David and jeff are playing smart as are chip and recihen and jon and kelly

No FF used yet for those 3 teams.

csim 07-04-03 01:05 PM

I have a feeling this will be a no elimantion pit stop.
I voted for team implants to get elimanted

pezboy 07-04-03 02:23 PM

Yeah, we're totally due for a non-elimination leg.

I started out really liking Kelly and Jon, but she's really grated on me over the last few episodes. She has no reason to be catty w/ Millie.

Speaking of Millie, I love the brief exchange she had with Chuck as they were getting on the train in India. It was a great scene and filmed just right. What a stark contrast in teammates--she plowed right in yelling for Chuck to follow and he just stood there. That contrast will not win them the race. *remembers Flo and Zach* Or maybe not.

Team Implants have a shot of positivity which should help them. This last episode was the first time I wasn't annoyed by either of them. Anyone have pics of these two in their modeling days, BTW?

Hopefully the teams will be aware of an impending non-elimination round. No one should waste a FF then.

Still having trouble rooting for someone, but Millie seems to lead the pack. Jon and Al are also getting less annoying. I'd still lean towards one of the 2 male teams winning.

Red Dog 07-04-03 04:45 PM

Non-elimination leg? That certainly sounds lame.

RandyC 07-04-03 08:08 PM

Curious. Is there any way of knowing prior to the end that it is a "non-elimination" leg? And if not, it sounds very convenient as a tool for the producers to keep an interesting couple in the game. Maybe that is why we have not seen one yet.

Canis Firebrand 07-04-03 09:02 PM

That sounds like a good reason for their use.
Either that, or a way to stretch out the show.

garmonbozia 07-05-03 01:44 AM

According to the rules, the non-elimination rounds are predetermined to the beginning of the entire race, but the players do not know which legs are non-eliminations and which ones are not ahead of time, although the last clue usually says "the last team to check in will be eliminated" when it is an elimination round.
IIRC, there are 3 non-elimination legs.
I did not see TAR or TAR2, but I think last year, once the non-elimination legs started, I think the last clue of the leg stopped saying that......so then you wouldn't necessarily know until you got to the pit stop.....or maybe I just don't remember correctly.

I think they are refering to Chipendales .... the male stripper show. Those two could be models.

Well I'd rather have 13 episodes than 10. I think it works well for several reasons. The viewers get to know the last 5 or so teams a lot better. AND....it makes the race more physically gruelling for the remaining teams by dragging it out longer...they really start to get tired by the end.

The description of the next episode is giving me flashbacks about Flo whining about refusing to get on the train if it didn't have AC.

Non-elimination Legs

In TAR1 & TAR2, there was 1 less team in each race and 1 more non-elimination leg. The non-elims were Legs 6, 8, 10 & 12.

In TAR3, a team was added (making 12 teams total) and one non-elimination leg was taken away. The non-elims were Legs 8, 9 & 12.

Since TAR4 also started with 12 teams, it'll be interesting to see if the producers keep the same non-elimination legs this time, or whether they vary them to throw the teams off.

Although the teams don't know it's a non-elimination leg (until they get the last clue and it doesn't say "The last team to check-in will be eliminated"), as a viewer, it's been easy to tell.
Spoiler:
Phil's opening voice-over will say something like "Which team will be last tonight?'' instead of "Which team will be eliminated tonight?"

B.A. 07-06-03 08:55 PM

I am hoping for the Mole and her Claustrophobe fiance to be eliminated next time around. They get on my nerves, particularly Chuck - he is an indecisive wuss.

Kelly and John haven't been too bad the last couple of eps, but they will have another fight sooner or later.

I like the new and improved team of Tian and Jaree.

I think I am starting to root for the Clowns. Or David and Jeff.

tofu 07-07-03 10:12 AM

I voted for Millie & Chuck but only because the mole seems to be growing bigger and is getting kinda scary.

CharlesC 07-07-03 10:19 AM

The Mole is going down. Chuck can't take much more of her bitching.

I don't think he can take any more "hot and tiny places" either. I loved it when he just stared at the train after the Mole dove on it. I was hoping he would miss it - damn bastard had to barely squeeze on it.

I knew that would get your goat. Last season the eventual winners were saved by one of these legs.
