Salem's Lot to be redone!

TNT is apparently doing a remake of Salem's Lot.

From the article:

"LOS ANGELES (AP) - TNT is taking a new stab at Stephen King's vampire novel '``Salem's Lot.''

The cable network plans to produce a four-hour miniseries based on the 1975 book about bloodsuckers who slowly take over an isolated New England town."

I, for one, have been pretty pleased with the last few Stephen King mini-series'. I can't wait for this one.

Yes! Something to look forward to.

renaldow 08-02-01 09:23 AM

That's good news! It's a good story, and hopefully they'll do a better job than the original did. If not, at least it won't look so dated!

Geofferson 08-02-01 10:38 AM

Great news. I love this story and I liked the original TV Movie too.

I assume Barlow will look like he was intended (even though the Reggie Nalder version was more horrific).

New Salem's Lot in 2004

Salem's Lot

I never really liked the original movie adaptation of Salem's Lot and although I prefer the book to the movie I am looking foward to how it may turn out.

Some interesting casting either way:

Rutger Hauer
James Cromwell
Rob Lowe
Andre Braugher
Samantha Mathis
Donald Sutherland

I wish "they" would put their money to better uses than remakes, I think an adaptation of Talisman would be more welcome, you know?

Geofferson 05-09-03 11:12 PM

Nice!

My favorite King book.

johnglass 05-09-03 11:23 PM

The scene with the kids floating outside the windows, scratching on it, scared the hell out of me as a kid.

jfoobar 05-12-03 01:51 AM

Oh man, does this ever sound like it is going to be baaaad. Plus, there is no way they can do the story justice and still walk within the confines of made-for-TV content standards.

joliom 05-12-03 02:22 AM

It will probably suck - most King adaptions usually do - but since the original was never that great, I suppose it's worth a shot. Maybe they should get Frank Darabont to direct - he has about as good a track record translating King to the screen as anybody. But that cast doesn't look very promising. Most of them are about 10 years off their last hit.

Ok, I'll second (or third) that emotion! This ranks in the top 5 scariest movie memories as a child!

 Bingo! that was the scariest F'ing thing I had ever seen up until then.

After reading the book, watching the TV movie again really disapointed me. King created a kick ass vampire in his book and they changed it into a moronic monster.

Josh-da-man 05-12-03 11:54 AM

The first TV movie was pretty lame. Because of this, I'm more interested in this one than previous ones like Carrie and The Shining, that were good films to begin with.

Damned good cast, by the way.

My god, I hope they never try a Talisman movie. As much as I loved the book, I know for sure they will have screw with it to get it made as a television movie and it just seems too grand to work as a two or even three-hour theatrical release. I am much more happy with the images I have in my mind than I would be in seeing it translated onto the small screen. Some things just should never be adapted in my opinion and this would be one of them.

Salem's Lot - a new adaptation of the Stephen King novel

This was reported in MovieTalk, but the adaptation will actually be on TV (a mini-series, I know not).

This time, Rob Lowe plays Ben Mears (the character David Soul) played in the 1970's version). Donald Sutherland as Straker, and Rutger Hauer as the un-man himself: BARLOW.

This will be finished next year, in 2004. Can't wait.

Anyone seen the old one lately? Does not seem like somethig that needs to be remade IMHO. But the cast sounds great.

I only hope they don't strech two nights into three as they seem to be doing since storm of the century and ever since.

The last good King adaptation for tv was the shinning....

Buttmunker 05-16-03 01:14 PM

I enjoyed Storm of the Century and The Stand, but didn't like The Shining because of that child actor. And It was just bad. Cheezy.

Have you ever read the book? It is really very different. If they stay closer to the book this time, it will definitly be worth it.

That being said, I first watched Salem's Lot when I was about 4. It scared the crap out of me. I vividly remember that boy coming back and scraping on the windo after the kid abandoned him in the woods. I just turned around and started screaming for my mother, who didn't know what I was watching. :)

And me! Every time I think of Salem's Lot, I remember that scene and I still get chills down my spine. See, there it goes again!
