Good stuff.

I definitely liked the "reversing the polarity,"Ensign Gomez," and "Holodeck" reasons. I've always said that about the Holodeck.

I take issue with the rule by committee - that applied to Picard and company because (except for Worf and sometimes Riker) they were a bunch of pu$$ies. You never saw that with Kirk in TOS. Kirk would have Sulu or Chekov fire photon torpedoes and phasers before even asking Uhura to open a hailing frequency.

I tell you what else is annoying - Riker holding the rank of commander for what - over ten years. Yeah sure, Jean Luc is great to work for but cut the cord, man. Either that or he must have made a ton of blunders off screen if Picard never put him on the promotion list.

I can see Spock not having the desire to command, but at least he made Captain.

I'm so glad most of the reasons had less to do with TOS and instead with that POS, TNG...

Kirk didn't give a sh*t about the Prime Directive. Kirk was cool.

Obviously not a real Trek fan.

No one reverses the polarities anymore, it's all about modulating the frequencies.

Well, they did offer Riker a promotion and captaincy four times.

And Spock actually was captain of the Enterprise, along with his rank. It's just that after Kirk was back to captain, he kinda just hung out with him.

Hence - my 'cut the cord' comment.

Yeah - I said Spock made Captain but did not command (except for a day or so in Wrath of Khan).

Sorry, just my opinion, but as far as I'm concerned there's the 79 episodes of Star Trek, and that's IT.

I certainly don't agree with you, but I can respect a purist even if he is a bit misguided . IMO, it's better than those who cling to the reverse assertion.

I've heard good things about DS9, but based on the episodes I've seen I don't believe them My best friend is a devotee, and he's promised to turn me on to some of the more quality eps from that series. I've seen enough Voyager and Enterprise to know I don't want to see anymore of them.

That was hilarious (my kids asked why I was laughing so hard--finally, a quiz I knew the answer to: Ensign Gomez.) I like ST, but the only one I really love is DS9.

The no office politics reason is a large part of what sets Babylon 5 ahead of Star Trek (for me). B5 is filled with people with serious flaws who WANT things (often things that aren't good for them), while Star Trek seems to be filled with more admirable people who are happy with what they have.

Riker was hoping Picard would die or get promoted so he could take over the Enterprise
