#1 would have to be Tom Hanks

Technically, Hanks got his start in film. He Knows You're Alone (1980)

Well, if we disqualify Tom Hanks for having a film career first, then we have to disqualify Jim Carrey for the same reason.

He was in all kinds of movies before In Living Color: Once Bitten, Earth Girls are Easy, Peggy Sue Got Married, etc.

Edit to add: he was in a very short-lived TV series called The Duck Factory before the above list, but still had a few movies under his belt by that time.
