Sci-Fi channel brings back Galatica..who will watch?

SCI FI has signed director Michael Rymer (Queen of the Damned) and the stars Edward James Olmos (Stand and Deliver Oscar nominee, Miami Vice Golden Globe winner), Mary McDonnell (two-time Oscar nominee for Passion Fish and Dances with Wolves), Jamie Bamber (HBO's Band of Brothers) and Katee Sackhoff (Halloween: Resurrection) for the new four-hour original miniseries Battlestar Galactica. Production begins in Vancouver in March. Battlestar Galactica will air exclusively on SCI FI in late 2003.

The beloved Battlestar gets a modern twist when SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking series in which "a ragtag fugitive fleet" of the last remnants of humanity searches for its true home. Fleeing the mechanoid Cylon race responsible for the slaughter of their human colonies, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a new set of challenges in order to escape pursuers hellbent on human extinction. This intriguing take on a classic creates an epic miniseries with action, adventure and family drama.

British actor Bamber will play Apollo, a role originated in the classic TV series by Richard Hatch. Oregon native Sackhoff will play a female Starbuck; the character, a man in the classic series, was played by Dirk Benedict.

Produced exclusively for SCI FI, Battlestar Galactica is written by Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission: Impossible II, Star Trek: First Contact) with David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) and Moore serving as executive producers.

So, um... so they cancelled Farscape, but this in its place? But what about the reasons they had for cancelling Farscape? I'm so confused. :(

Rogue588 03-30-03 11:19 AM

Farscape was cancelled because it had both Sci AND Fi. Whereas Hammer thinks shows on her network should just be Fi..[With a shot of the stars in the sky every-so-often]

But, Lou - you forgot the "Bonnie Hammer can take this project AND her channel and stuff it up her evil, duplicitious, non-sci-fi knowin' ass" option..

On second thought..I think the Dream Team might already be taking up space there..[with this POS, Scare Tactics & Tremors soon to follow..]

Would someone stake this bitch already..?

CaptainMarvel 03-30-03 11:21 AM

A female Starbuck? So Apollo and Starbuck are probably going to end up smooching?

That's not right. :(

TheMadMonk 03-30-03 03:28 PM

So, is this some kind of hybrid of Gattaca and Battlestar Galactica? ;)

Rogue588 03-30-03 03:36 PM

Spell check is your friend..

Eric F 03-30-03 05:01 PM

I have a personal grudge against spell check, but that's just me.

Hey, you know BG doesn't have anything to do with SF, like Children of Dune it has more to do with dysfunctional family relationships in space. Uh, yeah, that's it...

I'll watch, but I'll have a hard time watching with an open mind

Fielding Mellish 03-30-03 06:42 PM

I agree, there should be a third option:

Permanently deleted SciFi from my tuner selection.

necros 03-31-03 02:10 AM

Well I loved the original series, but thought 1980 was stupid. I'll watch this new mini series with an open mind and hope for the best :)

Female starbuck..... I dunno about that one :(

I'll agree with that. But, I think the commercials say December? That's almost as bad as their advertising for Taken.

CaptStormy 03-31-03 09:19 AM

Sci-Fi is dead to me.

redskull47 03-31-03 12:37 PM

There's a Sci-Fi Channel? Huh. I don't think I have that channel. I just have one that shows Braveheart & Flintstones all the time.

jkingfish 03-31-03 12:58 PM

Oh, I'll be watching it... never

Derrich 03-31-03 07:09 PM

They played the only good ep of Galactica 1980 today. The Return of Starbuck. Good stuff.

Nathan Gervais 03-31-03 07:47 PM

Are there any rumors about the original series being released to DVD? I'd rather the powers that be release this, then spend time and energy "revamping" the show.

Wizdar 04-04-03 02:44 PM

I like using spel check.
