Bruce Willis guest hosts Late Show?

I just saw this listed on the CBS site. Guess I'll find out what that means in about 10 minutes...

B.A. 02-26-03 10:27 PM

I wonder if it has something to do w/ Dave's swollen right eye from last night - he didn't look too good.

JonTurner 02-26-03 10:33 PM

Oh my God! - I missed the first 1 minute... tuned in when Willis said, "the show must go on!" and cut to Paul...

what did he say????

freedexter 02-26-03 10:39 PM

There's a story about it at Yahoo! News. He's out for the rest of the week, so Bruce is hosting today and repeats are airing tomorrow and Friday.

repeats -

Bruce hosting -

I wish I had realized this before the show started, I would have taped it. This is the greatest idea ever. Now he's got out the harmonica.

Late Night With Bruce Willis

I like the sound of that. Coupled with a performance by Grammy Award winner John Mayer, this is great.

Lokimok 02-26-03 10:45 PM

That was a lot of baldness just now.

I was afraid he was going to sing, but instead he turned into Gallagher: He covered the place with plastic & smashed things with a hammer. Hmm. I guess I'll watch a little more...

the narrator 02-26-03 10:53 PM

this is nice for a change...willis is doing a good job so far

AndyCapps 02-26-03 10:54 PM

If he would've busted out with Respect Yourself or Under the Boardwalk, I would be in heaven.

Hi, I'm Andy, and I've been a Bruceaholic since '86.

Robert 02-26-03 11:29 PM

That comedian, Brian Kylie, was hilarious! rotfl

Borst 02-26-03 11:31 PM

Bruce did a great job on very short notice

BDB 02-26-03 11:41 PM

Cool, just set the Tivo to catch this before I hit the hay.

outcastja 02-26-03 11:53 PM

Is this happening because of Dave's eye?

RichC2 02-27-03 12:11 AM

Carmen Elektra said it fell out, but Bruce Willis corrected her and said it really didn't fall out, exactly, and that Dave would be back real soon. ;)

I completely agree... I only miss The Late Show about 3 or 4 times a year, and I haven't laughed that hard at one of their standup acts since Mitch Hedberg's first time on the show about 4 years ago!

jkingfish 02-27-03 08:30 AM

okay, thank dog somebody cleared this up. I caught Carmen's interview and was just plain out confused. It was a long day and I was nearly delerious when I habitually flipped on Late Night as I slipped into bed. The combo of Bruce, the plastic wrap and my slipping in and out of a dreamstate was fodder for a restless night to be sure and I woke wondering if it was real. Personally, what I did catch I thought was great. I'm a big fan of the guest host a la Johnny. You get these guys on the other side of the desk than they are use to and usually, the good ones, they show you why they are entertainers in the first place.

I think Dave gets that, but probably had little time to arrange a full week.

Rico Diablo 02-27-03 09:17 AM

I couldn't believe my ears when Kalter said "Guest host Bruce Willis." Bruce's appearances are always hilarious and I appreciate the effort he puts into them. I thought he did a great job, especially when having to do a serious interview with Dan Rather. And all his videotaped bits were great. The "Tears of the Sun" audience comments were very funny and his burlesque appearance took guts to do.

Very well done.

razorbackfan 02-27-03 09:41 AM

Good show. Willis seemed terrified, which was refreshing to see a movie star type actually nervous.

hgar78 02-27-03 09:43 AM

cant believe i missed this episode! i never miss dave. :( hopefully they'll replay it soon.

guildda 02-27-03 09:51 AM

At first when Alan Kalter announced 'host Bruce Willis', I thought it was going to be some sort of bit Willis always does. Obviously I soon realized it was the real deal and was quite impressed.

Be sure to go see 'Tears of the Sun' to show Dave you wish him to recover quickly!;)

Yep, and I can't blame him.

It was great seeing a huge star take a risk like guest-hosting a popular talk show, but it was also reminiscent of the early Late Night years when they would take risks with the show itself like rotating the camera 360 degrees throughout the show or the episode where Larry "Bud" Melman was the guest host for the first half. I would always watch because I really didn't know what might happen that night.

That pretty much describes my experience too. I flipped it on about 10 minutes into it and was totally confused. Good stuff, from what I saw though.

B.A. 02-27-03 10:34 AM

I heard on the radio that it was the first time Dave had ever called in sick in about twenty years (besides when he had heart surgery a few years ago). That's pretty unbelievable. Somebody takes their work way too seriously. ;)

Chew 02-27-03 11:38 AM

I know Bruce was scheduled to be a guest on this show, but does anyone have an idea how much warning he had? "Hey Bruce, Dave called in sick. Care to host in 10 minutes?"
