My Big Fat Greek Life began tonight

Just sat through this. A lot different from the movie. Most of the comedy was forced, lots of overacting (reacting), but I suppose that's okay because it's supposed to be a comedy.

They changed some of the scenario a bit. Nia (not Tula) and her husband return from their honeymoon to find that her father has purchased them a house (instead of giving it to them at the wedding.) Also, we discover that the house is located across the street from the restaurant.

Ian, the husband, is really resistant to the family's intrusion on their new life, as opposed to the movie Ian, who just went with the flow because it was part of the package of falling in love with Tula.

It was nice to see almost the entire cast from the movie in the show, except for Ian....

Maybe next week's show will feel a bit fresher.

Explain to me the difference between this and "Raymond"? (Yes, I know this family is Greek, while the Romanos are Italian)

I think the show has some potential. I feel the father is by far and away the best character on the show. They need to keep showing and playing off his quirkiness.

However, it's going to take some talented writing to keep the show fresh. My main concern is that the character Ian, as someone already posted, has changed from someone who was going with the flow in the movie to now being against the family's smothering ways. Perhaps they felt they needed to write it that way to provide conflict involving him and the father. Without some type of conflict in the show, it can't last long.

So is the cast the same as the original sans Corbett?

"Raymond" is funny. "My Big Fat Greek Life" is not.

I vote for "C", none of the above are funny.

I agree with N2DVD, overdone and very forced and a horrible laugh track.
And I suppose every week it will be the overbearing family crossing the line and the husband and the wife trying to stand up to them.
Ive seen it before.

They should have done the sequel and not a TV show.

Caught bits and pieces and it felt really forced. I dunno. I haven't seen the movie.

Totally agree, a sequel would of been a lot better. Seems like they rushed this out for the DVD release. Unfortunately it might do more harm than good to the original movie.

Yes. Corbett is doing a show for FX, and could not commit.

You mean the guy from N*Sync is in it too.

There is a woman that looks like Andrea Martin of SCTV fame. Is that her? I haven't seen the movie or the sitcom.

I found the movie was decent. I just saw it last week. The TV show, on the other hand was awful. I saw like 2 minutes and the same force laugh-track played near continuously.

if I didn't know better, I would have thought the show was a SNL skit making fun of the movie. I have no need or desire to see it again.

.
New name change....new attitude. Ian is now know as "Thomas" for the tv series.

I think this series will be gone before any of you can say "Girls Club".

I think I'm one of the last 10 people in the country who hasn't seen the movie.

This premiere didn't make me want to go out and see it.

the show is NOTHING like the movie... don't let the show stop you from watching the film.

As far as this show goes... terrible. LITERALLY, within 5 seconds, i knew that i was not going to like the series. i finally deleted the show off my ReplayTV after 5 minutes.

it is also the first show. most new shows need a few episodes to ease into the show, characters, etc. (they didnt spend much time filming the movie). although i dont like the idea of the show you have to give them a few tries. if you think back to the "friends" pilot it just makes you cringe with how bad everyone is. the writing was good but the gang seems very uncomfortable and extremely unsure of their roles. it all was over-the-top.

The regular timeslot for the show is going to be on Sunday night.

"My Big Fat Greek Life" opened a lot bigger on TV than the movie on which it's based did in theaters, helping CBS to a Monday-night ratings win.

CBS stayed on top at 9 p.m. with "Everybody Loves Raymond," 13.9/20, and the premiere of "My Big Fat Greek Life," 14.2/20.

If they stick with the movie, she will find out that she is pregnant immediately... I doubt that will happen though.

She'll probably have fertility problems just to drive the series...

My wife watched it, I didn't... I was watching a much better show, Everwood.
