Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

God I hate Steve Moore... and not because of his politics (that doesn't help though).

He argues like a 3rd grader. You win every time if you're just louder than the other person and don't let them talk. Plus I hate his sniveling little laugh.

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

I completely agree with your remark about Moore's sniveling laugh. It's creepy! I learned of the Olbermann departure when Bill asked Rachel about it first thing once he made it to the panel. So in addition to being very surprised about that news, I was bummed that they were addressing a topic which I no prior knowledge of. I would say that calling David Stockman a "conservative" today is off the mark. He was for drug legalization, tossing the 2nd amendment, and was pretty tough on the fiscal spending policies of the 3 decades (i.e. post Reagan).

I was part of the audience at last evening's show in Television City. The distance from the panel and the audience was great enough that it was sometimes difficult to hear, particularly during moments of audience reaction. The audio levels did not sound like they were boosted up at all for those of us in the studio. I was also disappointed that Maher didn't come out to greet the audience before the show started. Instead we got the show's head "fluffer" writer handle the audience "goosing" instructions on how to behave. All in all, there was a lot more waiting around before getting into the studio than I was prepared to endure. Also, no cell phones were allowed in the studio. Guess they didn't want a phone ringer going off during a live taping, and didn't trust relying only on a strict pre-show admonishment.

Afterwords, I took my lovely wife out for a most excellent dinner at a Japanese restaurant in West L.A. (NanBanKan). So all in all, it was a successful evening.

People who are supporters of Palin read the Bible and believe in the Bible word for word. In the Bible it clearly says this world is Satan's world. Now it is no surprise that anyone and in this case the high and popular profile of Sarah Palin
will get bad press. Now if the press would treat Nancy Polosi the same then you could prove me wrong. The main stream media or Hollywood entertainers never call Nancy Polosi stupid or moron. She was SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE just last year which ment she's 3rd in line if something happens to Obama. That was the LEFT's claim that someone like Sarah who if McCain won would be 2nd in line if McCain won in 2008. But name calling is all the LEFT has.
If the LEFT would read the Bible they would see they are breaking one of the 10 COMMANDMENTS when they accused Sarah on the Arizona shootings.

I honestly thought WM Lopez was joking, though I'll admit it might have been self-preservation on my part. Because let's face it... there's too much to respond to in there if it's serious.

If wm lopez is joking, then he's the Andy Kaufman of DVD Talk and a certifiable comedic genius.

The panel was Maddow, Moore, and David Stockman?

Maddow is a lib, Moore is a huge conservative, and Stockman worked for Reagan as budget director, and I believe he quit early in Reagans term over philosophical differences. Through the years Stockman has shown that he is no conservative (and never was a huge conservative to begin with), and usually takes the democrats side on most issues. But cause he is introduced as 'former Reagan Budget Director', he is perceived as a conservative.

So I would say the panel has 1 lib, 1 conservative, and 1 mod/lib.

Bill Maher is part of the LEFT and he has read the Bible and calls the book b.s.
But I was talking about the ones on the LEFT that believe in the Bible.
Point I was trying to make is if you believe you shouldn't break one of the commandments. Much like priests that molest little boys. Why priests do that if they live the word of God?

I can stake my life on the fact that he isn't joking. Don't worry you'll get over the lunacy of it eventually.

What version of the Bible do you subscribe to?

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

I was channel surfing this morning, and came across the Friday Night rerun episode of Bill Maher, and here was his panel: Gloria Stehnem (Feminist), Ezra Klein (Washington Post and MSNBC analyst), and Gavin Newsom (Former Dem Mayor of SanFran). Wow, what a balanced panel!

They literally bitched about the republicans for the whole show! Republicans shows like Hannity are just as guilty, as these are not shows about debating the issues anymore, they are propaganda machines for their political parties. I used to love these shows, but they are utterly ridiculous now.

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

Next week he has two Republicans on the panel. I can't blame Bill for having a few shows every season where he just has on dems to bitch about the conservatives. They deserve it.

Sorry, but its ridiculous to watch a bunch of people from one side complain about the other side. I turned on Hannity a few weeks back and his whole panel was republicans and they were bitching about Obama, and thought it was a joke too. You should NEVER have a show where the panel is stacked, because it looks like you have an agenda.

The sad thing is politics is so polarizing it has filtered down onto the political shows now, as they have stacked panels to 'preach to the choir.' I remember watching Chris Matthews in the late 90's, and he was really tough on Clinton, even though he is a liberal. Now his whole show is about Palin, Glenn Beck, and the evil republicans.

Maybe I'm in the minority that I don't want to see shows that preach to the choir, it seems that these hosts are scared of alittle debate these days.

Agree on the same-sided panel waste of time. I like whe O'Riley puts Combs on and other times actually has a opposing view pundit do a one-on-one.

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

Even when O'Reilly has an opposing pundit on to do a one-on-one, it is still lopsided because he never lets them get a word in. Watch the interview with Obama.

I watched him pretty consistently last year, and he always brought on the "green" Republicans, one of whom appeared several times (I don't quite remember his name at the moment), who was simply there as a straw man that Bill could beat up. However, during each appearance, he wasn't hostile, he wasn't crude, and he wasn't a typical Republican at all. He certainly wasn't a liberal, but he didn't seem unreasonable with his viewpoints. He would make several very good points during the debate, and the other panelists and Bill would just freeze, as if they were afraid to agree with him (some good examples of this was when they brought up immigration reform, and he said that George W Bush attempted reform but failed due to political pressure, or when there was excessive government spending and how it was pushed by political pressure, not necessarily government incompetence).

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

I'm done with Maher.

His anti-science stance is become tiresome. He doesn't believe in the germ theory of disease (rather, he likes to attest to vague notions of toxins inhabiting our bodies causing illness, which is a nice way of saying he couldn't pass an 8th grade science class if his life depended on it). He is also part of the anti-vaccine crowd.

He has gone on long tirades lately about how certain statements are politically incorrect. Which is sort of the antithesis of his original intent.

He also comes off as very smug.

I remember John Fund or Steve Moore of the Wall Street Journal would usually go on as the 'token' republican. They could usually hold their own because they are pretty knowledgable, but Bill would always stack the deck on them, along with the crowd hooting and hollering everytime they disagreed.

Bill Maher is anti-science? When the hell did this happen? He's one of the biggest supporters of science out there! I'm not saying he always has all his facts right, but come on, he's a comedian and talk show host.

They don't go out of their way to exclude Republicans from the panel. There's an open invitation. Many just don't want to do the show. He's had plenty of panels when 2 or even all 3 guests were not Democrats.
