Last week Bill once again showed, while pointing out stupid theories regarding obesity, that he himself doesn't understand the topic either. If he thinks will power and donuts are the problem he doesn't understand anything. When he asked why 50 years age, people weren't obese, I just wanted to slap him. 50 years ago your father drank scotch at work, smoked during dinner at died of a heart attack with 65. Food just replaced booze, but in both cases it's just a drug to numb unerlying problems.

So apparently Bill and Bret Stephens are cool with a certain amount of kids dying because "most" were fine when they got COVID. And to say masks "probably" didn't do anything at all? Fuck right off with that Republican talking point bullshit.

CNN pulling his Overtime segment to air on their network at 11:30 pm was a big nothing burger.
The OT segment was still only 10 minutes and Bill still seems like he hates the idea just like when HBO originally started to making him do a YouTube after show. 😂

It seemed to me his biggest problem was with the official who said obesity is primarily hereditary. That is kind of a bullshit statement.

For example high cholesterol. You can take statins to keep your cholesterol under control and still eat whatever you want. Stop trying to get it under control with lifestyle changes and just let the drugs do the work instead.

What I got from it. Instead of blaming lifestyle or encouraging lifestyle changes, the person is blameless because they have a disease that should be treated with drugs. It's no longer your fault if overweight or obese.

We had a First Lady from 2009-2017 who had a campaign for children’s fitness, did we not? How did we get to wanting to shove Ozempic down their throats in the 6 years since?

Yeah that’s a big part of it too, and that’s also a bullshit approach. We absolutely need to work on encouraging healthy lifestyles. Drugs are fine for those who can’t do the work for some reason. But for most, if you eat less and move more, you will lose weight.

If you have overweight parents, it's likely you are an overweight child. It's not a genetic defect, but still something which kind of happened to you.

I don't think Maher was discounting non lifestyle reasons for obesity. Rather, in instances where lifestyle is the cause, lifestyle changes should be the primary treatment, rather than just putting people on weight control drugs and continuing the unhealthy lifestyle, which is what the medical professional was suggesting. In other words, don't even try to get people to change their lifestyle, just give them drugs and let them eat whatever they want.
He doesn't feel doctors should ignore lifestyle, when a factor, and just give you a pill. It sends the message "Now you can eat all the donuts and drink all the Pepsi you want. We have a pill for it."

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread
My whole immediate family is/has been overweight. My mom was thinner earlier on but from about 60 on she’s really put a lot of weight on. My brother has gone from being fairly overweight all his adult life to straight up obese now. (50 years old, 6’2” and probably 350 minimum). My dad essentially died at 56 from lifestyle choices - drinking and bad food choices which led to type 2 diabetes.
I was a “husky” kid. I’ve spent more of my adult life than not around the 260-270 range. I’m 6’2” and very broad so I wear it well. No one ever guessed I weigh that much.
We had no restrictions on what we ate or drank when I grew up. Soda with lunch and dinner. Hostess snacks every day. Large portions. Take out. Never had any vegetables that weren’t boiled and slathered in butter and salt.
I am now in my late 40s and healthier than I ever was in my 30s. I’m at 245 which looks good on me and still tightening it up. I’ve maintained this relative weight for over 2 years.
The point is, I have everything against me. Bad habits growing up. No parental direction on good nutrition. A generally indulgent personality. Guess what? I didn’t need a fucking pill. I needed to move my ass more, make better choices and keep track of what I’m eating. Done.
It seems more and more in this country someone or something else has to be to blame for our personal woes. I could easily claim that. But I’m still the one who has to live with potential hypertension and diabetic issues as well as cardiac problems due to lifestyle. So I’m the one who has to own it and fix it.
PS - my dad actually died from being on a type 2
diabetes “wonder drug” that was pulled from the market for damaging livers. Many people won big settlements for this. Cost of doing business for big pharma. I have zero doubt they would bury any bad test results from Ozempic just like they did for the drug my dad took. Pills should be a last resort.

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread
Kristen Soltis Anderson is a complete moron. Props to Bill Maher to completely continue not challenging his guests (i.e. his "interview" with Bill Barr was one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen). Used to always go outta my way to watch Maher. Not anymore. He doesn't get that he's drifted...he's trying to appear "centrist" when the entire idea of "centrism" has shifted...He doesn't get it...He's pissed off about "wokeism" (not as much of a problem as he thinks) and he's pissed off about COVID policies (most of the policies were just trying to save lives)...He's changed. It's too bad. He feels he has to pivot to some sort of "centre" which no longer exists...so props to him, and I'm not alone. I have several other buddies that used to always watch his show and talk afterwards and most of them just don't even tune in anymore...The ludicrous Bill Barr "interview" was the last straw for many of them...

I had to fast forward after 5 minutes. Bill sucking up to that asshole was too much for me. And had him on for 25 minutes! Why did he give Musk a pass for letting Trump and others back on Twitter who had been permanently banned? Epic fail. I found this article online earlier today.

Was anyone expecting Maher to give Musk anything other than softball questions and a blowjob?

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread
The whole show was horrible. The ass kissing to Musk was barely watchable the Russian guy was just talking in clichés and so did Maher for the most part.
