Originally posted by Red Dog I've certainly found that it performs better when it has been off for some time. Plus it is loud as shit when it is on (if it has something in the record buffer). The other major disadvantage of TW-DVR is how long it takes to change channels: nearly one second. This may not seem like much but it's an eternity in TV land and you'll never get used to it. Does the Tivo or ReplayTV make clicking noises and how long does it take to change channels? I'd be willing to cancel TW-DVR for Tivo if the latter is less annoying. |
The recording sound of my Replays are far quieter.
All DVRs are slow on channel changes, particularly if you have it connected to a cable box. |

We don't have our DirecTiVo in our bedroom, but we've never noticed any noise in the year we've had it. I'm sure there's a little noise if you're listening for it, but nothing we've ever noticed.
As for the slowness in changing channels, I guess it's a little slow. But if you have a DVR, why are you changing channels? I can't recall the last time I surfed with the remote. My TiVo always has something waiting on me. I have no need for "Live TV". Of course I've never been a big channel surfer anyway. |
