Farscape -- "Bringing Home the Beacon" 02.07.2003

Wow. Where's das when you need him?

It's now Sunday nite/Monday morning and i'm starting a thread for a Farscape ep that aired on Friday and that I saw two weeks ago...what a shame.

ANYways...

I have something BAD to say about this ep!

*GASP*

But, i'll get to that later...

While last week's ep featured the males on Moya, this one was all about the girls...

Aeryn is looking better than ever. Chiana and Noranti should take their act on the road. ;)

This is definitely the start of something big.

As far as the negative comment...I got that "Michael Bay"-ish seasickness when the girls were negotiating with Rekka at the table. :)

Other than that...everything else was great as usual.

6 episodes to go...

:(

Are you familiar with the concept of coitus interruptus?

cooper2000 02-10-03 09:37 AM

The only thing I didnt like about the episode was that the Sci Fi channel started airing another Non Sci Fi commercial to yet another Reality program.
Something about scaring people into thinking they are being stalked. Now thats entertainment.

Great episode. It was like Oceans 11, but in space but without the happy ending.
Pretty slick if you ask me. Loved the whole look of the Space station. Boy am I going to miss not only how much I love the characters and writing but the production values on this thing sure show us a different world every week unline the sterile Trek look.
Loved the Chiana and Noranti moments.

And still Sci Fi has not come to their scenes....

Come to the senses, I meant.

Wizdar 02-10-03 09:49 AM

It’s called “Scare Tactics.”

As far as coming to their senses: I’m sure that they believe they are on the right track. They’re just not on board the same train that we are on.

If their name was something other than SciFi, I don’t think there would be an issue.

Still, they have the lion’s share of what we consider to be SF/Sci-Fi programming.

I liked the idea of using a dead leviathan as a shopping mall or whatever. Although it seems a bit morbid.

I can't believe we're heading for this big cliffhanger ending for the season and will never see it played out.

It's kinda like pulling the rug out from under 3rd Season Next Gen right after Riker says: "Mr. Worf....FIRE!", credits roll.........

Wizdar 02-10-03 11:46 AM

That’s what I’m talking about. One can assume that the current season was crafted with the idea that the story would continue. As Rogue588 suggests, it looks like a build-up for something.

I wonder if something was done with the last episodes to soften the blow. Too much to ask for, I guess…

If you read through the chats that are posted at sites like www.farscapeworld.com and www.savefarscape.com you can get some answers to these questions...

Basically, the creators have said that they *did* write the end of season 4 assuming that they had 22 more episodes to finish the story. It does end on a cliffhanger and the 22 stories for season 5 have already been mapped out.

The final episode was already shot before news of the cancellation came down, so there is a limited amount of stuff they could do to "soften the blow", as you say. However, in one recent chat (I can't seem to find it), Kemper has said that some creative editing on the final episode has allowed it to have an ending (of sorts). But the whole thing sounds incredibly disappointing...

Scare Tactics, so this is the way they are heading. Cheap and utterly unoriginal programming?
So they got good ratings for Taken. That was only for what a week or two and its ok to run crap all the other weeks?
Scaring people. Now thats entertainment.

Each time I watch an episode of Farscape, I watch with sadness because, this is a really good show.
Look at all the thought that went into just the sets in the episode and all the detail.
Enterprise never does that.
It just sucks and they have done nothing to appease fans.
Kinda sound like Lucas is now adays with his, I am not releasing the original Star Wars on DVD.

Don't fans count at all anymore?

Nope. Berman, Lucas, & Hammer time and again have shown complete & utter discontempt for fans of science fiction. Why's that? Well, let's break down the word FAN...

[Courtesy of http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=fan]

Fan:

n. An ardent devotee; an enthusiast.

n. Without qualification, indicates a fan of science fiction, especially one who goes to cons and tends to hang out with other fans. Many hackers are fans, so this term has been imported from fannish slang; however, unlike much fannish slang it is recognized by most non-fannish hackers. Among SF fans the plural is correctly `fen', but this usage is not automatic to hackers.
So this means that without a DOUBT UPN, Skywalker Ranch, & Sci-Fi will have someone that will spend money/watch regardless of how the stars, characters, writers, creators are treated.

There are those who are too lackadaisical to remove themselves from the teat which has begun producing weak storylines &/or terrible acting. Sentimentality keeps them sucking for hopes of the good 'ol days.

Or there are those who are optimistic..thinking when things are at the bottom, there's nowhere to go but up.

Then, there are those who feel they've invested too much time on something and feel the group mentioned above [the stars, characters, writers, creators] & the fans are entitled to much more and make their voices heard on fourms such as this and creating campaigns such as the ones found on bboisvert's sig.

Scare Tactics looks to be a huge, stinking pile of sh*t. It seems to me that networks [Not just Sci-Fi] are more concerned with creating flash-in-the-pan "disposable" programs that are low in cost, require no scripts, no actors, no thought process & no creativity.

I wonder...in the future, will there be Scare Tactics marathons every New Year's Eve/Day similar to the Honeymooners or the Twilight Zone?

I think not.

cooper2000 02-10-03 06:01 PM

How could I forget Berman???!!!??
The three who have **** on Sci Fi forever.

bboisvert 02-13-03 09:46 AM

Ratings are in:

http://www.watchfarscape.com/news/ar...php?newsid=239

1.3 at 8PM. 0.6 at 12:00AM.

Up from last week's low ratings... much closer to the recent averages.

I notice that "The Dream Team" isn't listed as being on last week. Did this get moved? Or have they just yanked it entirely, since there seemed to be only a dozen or so people watching?

Wizdar 02-13-03 09:50 AM

They’re still playing ads for “The Wet Dream Team” so I guess it’s still on.

cooper2000 02-13-03 12:48 PM

But still no renewal....
