The Shield first two episodes. What did I miss?

to make a long story short, my Tivo has been grabbing The Shield marathon on FX the past few days, and I was going to sit down and watch them Saturday. Stupid me didn't realize until just now that I had set it up to keep just 5 episodes, so I lost "The Pilot" and "Our Gang". Is there anything presented in those two episodes that will prevent me from enjoying the rest of season one?

The pilot is must-see and you don't want it spoiled here.

well, I've gone ahead and watched episodes 3-7 so far. I can only assume, from flashbacks during these episodes, that the big surprise in the Pilot is

Spoiler:

Vic and one of his buddies kills a cop.
is that pretty much it?
