Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

The music sounds good but watching those videos definitely will keep me from buying a ticket when they come to town this fall. DLR is a jackass and always has been but now he is an old jackass who can't sing or even keep time with the song. His clownish ways always got on my nerves. I guess you can accept them more when is coming from a twentysomething. And not having Anthony's background vocals really does hurt. You never realized how much he contributed to VH's sound until he left.

You want to see how to do it right in the twilight of your career, go see an Eagles concert.

How does Hagar sound nowadays? Has he lost it as well but is he still in good voice?

Not sure why, he's definitely cleaned up his act. I saw them on their tour a few years ago. He looked happy and healthy and sounded great, same as he does here. The zombified, walking dead, barely surviving look Eddie had around 2005 is long gone.

He sounds great as far as I know and MA is playing with him. Hell, I heard more buzz for Hagar to play with VH than DLR.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, they prove otherwise on Ellen.

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

I started to listen to the new live record and just couldn't do it.

made it through 2 songs and couldn't get any further.

I listened to the early records instead.

I saw them in the late 70's and early 80's half a dozen times and it was
a great live show, even DLR.

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

As a fan of the Roth era of VH, it pains me to say that it's time to kick him out of the band. DLR will never be remembered as a good singer, but he at least in his prime had the voice to hit the high notes. He also was very entertaining to watch live. Now he is just reminder that growing old really sucks. I still think Alex and Eddie sound great. If they were smart then they would bring back both Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar and attempt to write some original music and not rework unfinished bullshit from the 70s.

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

Would be interesting to know just how many would turn out for a true Van Hagar reunion vs. the numbers that turned out on the last tour, and will again this summer. I know I would consider Van Hagar tickets if the price was reasonable, but never this sad display with should be retired Roth.

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

Does this thread belong in the music forum?

I think the baton screwup was edited out and Kimmel only showed it the following night.

I remember everybody complained for years they wanted Roth and the original VH back and now nobody is happy he is back lol.

Ozzy is probably in the same boat voice wise though he is not as annoying as Roth.

Roth likes to sport that fake used car salesman smile.

Even with a washed up Roth they are still better than than Imagine Dragons or what is considered rock these days.

Will Jimmy Kimmel retire in 2019?

Because as much as I enjoy Fallon's antics, Kimmel is bitingly funny and smart. I enjoy his conversations with guests and his overall personality.

Is this just a ploy to get more money? If they give him more will he stay?

He is still young enough to get one more big contract and then leave while he is young. I doubt he is going anywhere.

Re: Will Jimmy Kimmel retire in 2019?

I think Kimmel is the best interviewer of the current late night hosts. He has a snark to him which makes his interviews 'less staged' then others, and doesn't fawn like Fallon does.

Isn't he in 3rd place behind Colbert and Fallon? I wouldn't be suprised if ABC tries to go with someone younger when his contract is up since he has never won the Late Night Ratings Wars.

Re: Will Jimmy Kimmel retire in 2019?

Kimmel laughs at everything his guests say so he is not above the other hosts.

No big deal to me if he left though he is hosting the Oscars and probably ABC's boy.

I don't ever remember cracking up once during his jokes or skits.

Re: Will Jimmy Kimmel retire in 2019?

I think it's a ploy. Most celebrities have huge egos and will never voluntary leave the spotlight. I used to like Kimmel but now he just comes off as mean. He doesn't seem to have anything new to say, so he does the same gags over and over. I do enjoy the "Mean Tweets" bit though. He spends far too much time promoting other ABC/Disney properties like "The Bachelor" and "Dancing with The Stars"

ABC in my mind does not exist since they don't carry the NFL and have no idea what airs on their network.

Re: Will Jimmy Kimmel retire in 2019?

Jimmy has guest hosts this week. He had Dave filling in Tuesday night (Halloween).

Dave Grohl, that is, dressed as Letterman.

Re: Will Jimmy Kimmel retire in 2019?

His idol is Letterman so I assume he has a love for this and won;t give up until he is forced out.

Now Kimmel is #2 in the ratings after Colbert and Fallon has fallen since people want Trump bashing politics in their late night shows (Not that I voted for Trump but I prefer the fun of Fallon's show).

I actually donít mind Fallon either but heís better in small doses. Colbert has never really caught on with me. I didnít like The Colbert Report but thought Iíd like him better being himself rather than playing a character but he still doesnít do much for me.

I wouldn't watch Fallon every night or anything, but he's enjoyable when having a big guest you like or has a nice music appearance.
