I was surprised by that. But it was a great show and deserves to been seen by a wider audience.

Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

Thoughts?

Personally, I think David Lee Roth is a pretty sad shadow of what he used to be. Sauntering around with his hands in his pockets, chewing gum, piss-poor timing, couldn't carry a tune even if someone installed handles on it for him, and apparently he socked himself in the nose with the mic stand or something before the show barely started, and he had to do the remainder of the set with a big-ass bandage on his face.

And to top it all off, because of time restrictions, we didn't get to see the hottie he pulled from the audience dance.

Is Eddie that hard up for money that we need to endure this?

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

Well, I skipped it knowing what the Dave factor was going to be. That last tour was so disappointing only because Dave, who never was a great live, had totally lost it. The band sounded great, but he was a joke.

Ok, just went and watched the clips...someone must have gone to the Vince Neil Vocal Atrocity School!! That was even worse than I remember from the last tour.

Never knew Roth was swathed in tattoos across his torso. Assuming that's a relatively new thing?

Damn... I was thinking about grabbing a seat to see them this summer. After those videos, I may pass...unless they are offering a discount on the lawn.

at the nose smash. He's been doing that kendo stick routine for years. I've honestly wondered if he's ever hurt himself (or someone else) during a show. Now we know.

Yes, I think he got them after the 2012 tour...

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

If DLR keeps his antics to a minimum and doesn't try to oversing (That is his biggest issue) they sound alright. I actually think the JK performance wasn't horrible. It's pretty sad when Eddie looks the best out of the four of them.

Good point - by far, Eddie looks the most normal/healthy of the group. Quite impressive actually given what he's gone through.

Okay just replace David and I'm good to go for some more VH.

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

That was terrible.

Dave needs to stop. He can't sing any more. The band need to accept that. How embarrassing.

Wow. Almost makes me wish they got back with Gary Cherone instead.

Now we know how Valery Bertinelli lost all that weight; they gave her share of the food to Wolfgang.

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

I happened to catch the last song of this show on accident, and I was actually surprised that they sounded great. David Lee Roth is a dork now, but I was amazed his voice still sounds pretty great. A lot of these rock singers really lose their vocal chops as they age so he sounded way better than I would have thought.

Don't think Roth sounds bad at all, but the way he LOOKS and ACTS is very off putting.

I should replace him.

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

People that think Roth sounds great should find one of the video of their 80's concerts (I think the US Festival is available), or just revisit the classic VH albums or the first couple solo albums. He never really was a true singer, but what he did he did far better back in the day.

But yeah, it looks far worse that it sounds. The video from the first few dates on the previous tour are very comical as Roth tries out a head mounted wireless microphone and has no idea what to do with his hands.

Ah, yes. The jazz hands.

He obviously isn't going to be the performer he was 30+ years ago. It's just a matter of aging. I wish some of these singers would learn when to call it quits...

Re: Van Halen on Jimmy Kimmel (3/30/15)

Caught this by accident too flipping the channels. But saw the entire performance. My thoughts, the music sounded great. Roth sounded terrible. Is he not capable of the singing the songs as close to the studio version any more? He was all over the place vocally. Plus, he looks like an idiot. Eddie has never looked healthier. Looks great in fact. AND happy! And sorry, but I will never get used to (or accept) Wolfgang taking over for Michael Anthony.

Roth just looks creepy. He really needs to grow his hair out so he doesn't look like some sleazy guy putting roofies in girls' drinks at the bar at Applebees.

Yes chewing gum through a song is a good way to show your commitment to the singing.

He has. He split his head and face open a few years ago and they made fun of him on Howard Stern for it.

I guess Eddie is now permanently red and Wolfgang looks like he ate Marc Anthony. Yeah, I never got into VH, even though they're from Pasadena.
