Friends 11/21/02

Just caught this Thanksgiving show, and I really wasn't impressed at all.

Spoiler:
Christina Applegate was just playing the same character that Reese Witherspoon did, which was the same as the early Rachel. OK, we get it, they are all spoiled. I did like the ending though with Chandler. The whole plate plot was pretty good. That was pretty much the only thing that I found funny in the show.

Rypro 525 11-21-02 07:43 PM

well, i found it as a riot. very funny episode imo.

ClarkKentKY 11-21-02 07:43 PM

Worst episode ever.

Didn't laugh once. Even the Joey parts were weak. Friends is slowly declining off my shows to even watch :( A couple of more episodes like this and i wont' even bother. It used to be such a great show.

14 minutes into Will & Grace and i still haven't laughed either.

Colonel Mustard 11-21-02 07:45 PM

I thought it was great. I hope Christina Applegate shows up again down the road. She was very good. I think this was probably my favorite episode of the year.

Rypro 525 11-21-02 07:48 PM

same. it seemed like applegate almost was like an older kelly bundy.

conscience 11-21-02 08:41 PM

I hope I wasn't the only one who saw the plate thing coming from a mile away.

Let's get every plate and put them up except for that one close to the edge over there....c'mon Monica...you aren't your scolding self anymore...

Although the whole fight was sort of funny.

Just not as good an episode as the last two were.

Only joke that made me smirk was when Chandler chastised Rachel and Christina's character by saying:

"Even though those plates weren't as pretty as the pink ones I picked out...."

Darren Garrison 11-21-02 10:02 PM

One thing Christina Applegate and Jennifer Aniston have in common-- they get famous enough, and suddenly they start wearing bras every episode.

B.A. 11-21-02 10:38 PM

Actually I liked most of the episode except Christina Applegate - she was just too obnoxious and too stupid, imo. It got annoying - we get enough obnoxious and stupid from the cast members as it is, we don't need more.

immortal_zeus 11-21-02 10:38 PM

I thought the episode was pretty funny....especially Amy (Christina Applegate) getting Emma's name wrong....Emmitt, Emily...

And then Amy thinking that Phoebe was Emma... And everytime Phoebe said, "Phoebe", Amy kept thinking she was making a funny sound.

Funny enough, IMHO. Applegate was pretty funny.

It wasn't that bad. Christina Applegate was ok, just like in "Jesse". Not too special, but not really bad either. I think if I were to rate the Thanksgiving episodes from "best" to "worst"

1) The One with Brad Pitt (there are my titles, not theirs.)
2) The One with the flashbacks
3) This one.
4) The One with the football game

I think those are the only 4 Thanksgiving episodes, but I could be wrong.

SuperJim88 11-21-02 11:20 PM

Amen with your best, the one with Brad Pitt. No doubt.... ;)

JTH182 11-21-02 11:41 PM

No way, the football one is the BEST! "Hey Joe, where do Dutch people come from?"

Julia Roberts is making a comeback... is she going to be playing Susie Underpants again, or pulling double roles?

The football one was ok. I do admit, I loved the ending where they all eat grilled cheese.

From the NBC promos, I thought the Julia Roberts episode is a repeat. Was I wrong? I think they are just using it to tie into the "Julia Roberts Weekend".

I think you're right because they show Chandler in the bathroom stall in the ad, which is right before Julia steals his clothes.

I loved this episode. Lotsa fun!

I'd put the One with Chandler in a Box in there somewhere.

kevin75 11-22-02 07:56 AM

did anyone else notice that chandler was actually eating and participating in thanksgiving this year?

djbrown 11-22-02 08:43 AM

what happened after Chandler knocked the plates over? Cursed NBC can'y synch up their air times with what Tivo uses, and the episode abruptly stopped right when the plates crashed to the ground.

Draven 11-22-02 09:18 AM

They have been going 2 minutes over. Scrubs normally plays it's "short" intro to make up for it.

I thought this was pretty good, and I thought Christina Applegate pretty much nailed "early Rachel."

Mmmm...nailing Rachel...:D

I think those are the only 4 Thanksgiving episodes, but I could be wrong.

Here they are:

Season 1 - The One Where Underdog Gets Away (Rachel is trying to collect enough cash to afford a flight to Vail "Shoop, shoop, shoop", Joey ends up on a VD poster, the girls get locked out of the apt and dinner gets burned)

Season 3 - The One With the Football (the Gellar cup and Dutch)

Season 4 - The One With Chandler In A Box (Chandler is confined to a large shipping crate to attone for stealing Joey's girlfriend Kathy, Monica gets an ice chip in her eye and meets Richard's handsome son) this is my second favorite as Monica sums up each friend in one line:

Monica: Fine! Judge all you want to but, (points to Ross) married a lesbian, (points to Rachel) left a man at the altar, (points to Phoebe) fell in love with a gay ice dancer, (points to Joey) threw a girl’s wooden leg in a fire, (points to Chandler) livin’ in a box!! (goes to her room)"

Season 5- The One With The Thanksgiving Flashbacks (why Monica lost weight and Chandler doesn't have a little toe)

Season 6 - The One Where Ross Got High (the one where Mr and Mrs Gellar visit for dinner and Rachel makes the triffle that "tastes like feet" - Joey: "What’s not to like? Custard? Good. Jam? Good. Meat? Gooooood." This is my favorite.)

Season 7 - The One Where Chandler Doesn’t Like Dogs (Tag breaks up with his girlfriend and Phoebe hides a dog in the apt while she's living there waiting for her burned apt to be redone)

Season 8 - The One With The Rumor (Joey tries to eat the whole turkey, Brad Pitt guest stars)

Well if that wasn't seen a mile away, Aniston checking over her SHOULDER mid-tussle to check where the plate WAS on the table so she could knock it off was a decent indication! I couldn't believe how sloppy that was. Otherwise I enjoyed the episode.

I guess even NBC realizes that the popularity of this show (and their entire Thursday night line-up) is declining. Used to be a time when Thanksgiving night had all new "Must See TV" with Thanksgiving themed episodes.

Yes, they've been going 2 minutes over for a while now, but last night they went even longer. I pad by 2 minutes and have never had a problem, but last night I missed the ending skit.

Also, E/R usually starts at 9:59 (and has started at that time for about 2 seasons now). Last night, it started about a minute or two before that.

Freakin' NBC on Thursdays. I'm going to have to put 10 minutes worth of padding around those shows just to make sure? Great.

Daytripper 11-22-02 10:19 AM

A couple funny lines and moments on this episode. Other than that, I thought it was terrible. Specifically the Christina Applegate's dialogue. "So, if you two die...do I get the baby?" Out of no where. And especially after they showed what a self centered cold hearted person she was. I was like "Huh!?"

Me too. Normally, it's no problem, since Scrubs usually comes on right after Friends, so anything that's not on the Friends recording is on the Scrubs recording. Last night, though, no such luck.

So what happened? Anybody?

By the way, djbrown, after last night, I moved Friends ahead of Scrubs on the priority list and set Friends to record for half an hour extra. This should cover me in future weeks, I think, and will still pick up Scrubs if it airs sometime other than immediately after Friends.

Venusian 11-22-02 10:29 AM

chandler said, "well, nevermind, we know i'm gonna die first" or something like that."

then during the credits, it had him taping up the box and phoebe asked if he told monica and he said no. then he told monica that he thinks she's right and that they shouldnt use the plates for a long long time, she said "like when the queen comes" and he said maybe not even then. then he started carrying the box away to put it away and joey walked in and said "so you told her you broke the plates" and monica got this surprised look on her face and yelled "What?!?", so Joey started into "See, a racoon came in..." and it ended......if i remember it all correctly
