Er 7/11
Spoiler:
Huzefa, 24 is on Global, ER is on CTV. |
I liked the episode, and I like Cheadle's character. The show seems to have gone off on a new tangent, focusing almost entirely on Abby's brother and Cheadle, but I did find it engaging, so maybe it's working better than seeing the remnants of the cast and the inter-hospital politics stuff.
Still think that the subtlety and depth that made the show so good a few years ago are really lacking, but the dialogue and characters are still engaging. I agree with you that the 14-year-old girl was sickening. But then, the father was kind of annoying too. |
Another decent episode. Sure, a bit too much of Abby's brother and his new girlfriend. Abby's brother is hiding something, like he probably got kicked out of the air force. Again, Lewis and Gallant got hardly any significant scenes, as with Weaver. Romano just keeps nailing the lines (the Kovach accent line was great). Cheadle's character has some uncommon depth given his own ailment. (Did anyone else recognize the ailing 26 year old's father as "Holtz" from Angel?). The 14 year old girl's story was pretty disturbing by the end of the episode.

When did the ER get a 7/11. Do they have slurpees?:p
|
I was really moved by this episode - mainly by Cheadle. He doesn't pull a punch in this one. The scene with Carter and him is priceless. And Haleh with Abby. Sometimes they nail these conversations down so well.
Was it just me or did Corday seem to be running things more than Carter? Curse her for not staying with Nathan though, the woman needs a heart transplant herself. You're right. They have quite a different focus these past two episodes...must be why I'm liking them now;) Just keep showing Romano, I say. Carter and Abby: meh. What is going on with that preview though for next week?? It looks like the camera crew from NYPD Blue shot it... Spoiler:

I think it is nice to be able to sit back and watch Don Cheadle work, he is such an amazing actor! Is it me or is Romano one of the funniest guys on tv now?
Superstringtheory, I was thinking exactly the same thing in regards to Abby's brother and mother, that is just weird, but I really don't care to see that storyline revisited and it looks like Sally Field will be one next, she drove me nuts last year (or was it the year before?). Finally, they will be doing something w/ Kovac next week! |

Finally, they will be doing something w/ Kovac next week! It is hereditary so it's not surprising...the thing is, if they don't go this route then it looks like Abby is the irrational one for spending the better part of the ep being 'overly' concerned. I hope they do go somewhere with Kovac, he's had a dim start so far for such a strong character:( |
I really liked Wylie and Cheadle's scene. That was pretty intense. Everything he said about stem cell research is true. Every bit of it.
I might be alone on this, but I like Pratt having that guy for a brother. It helps to provide a framework to make him more three dimensional. A lot of his bravado is just him covering his anxieties. I love Mekhi Pfeiffer. I have really enjoyed his addition to the cast. (Does anybody else remember him as Luther Mahoney's no-account nephew, Junior Bunk, on Homicide: Life on the Streets?) |
Add me to the Don Cheadle/Romano appreciation club. A shame Don's only scheduled for four eps though. And here's hoping it doesn't end the way I think it's going to...
Kovac? Bah. Next week is his "defining moment"? Does that mean he's going to bore me much faster? I like Mekhi Pfeiffer but not Pratt. Hopefully they won't show more of his "home" life. Abby's brother has managed to annoy me more than Abby this ep. And I agree about that 14 year old plot. Sad commentary on our world today. |

Don Cheadle is one of the best things to happen to ER ever, IMO.
He provides a perfect foil to Corday's cold transformation. The final scene with him sitting on the bench at the subway station and Corday leaving was just awesome. It'll be interesting to see what happens to Abby's brother. |
Download the latest BMW film off their website, it features Cheadle in a good role in the short film. I think it's called "Ticker".

I don't understand everyone's fondness for this Romano guy. He's so rude, misanthropic, and tactless that it's completely implausible to believe he would have attained such a high position, medical aptitude notwithstanding. In real life (which this show is half-heartedly trying to recreate), he would have been booted on day one with that attitude. I don't find him funny either.
|
Romano is SOOOOO much like real doctors (especially surgeons) it isn't even funny. Though most doctors aren't blessed with his wit, they do posses that same razor sharp tongue.

Add me to the "I don't really like Romano" camp, and yet even though he's a jerk, I find myself caring for him. But he's still a jerk. :D
|
Romano is very much like more than a few top surgeons. Surgeons are by nature conceited and overly confident. And that's exactly the type of person I want cutting me open if necessary. I don't care if he can make good dinner conversation, I want someone who will not hesitate or be unsure of himself when my insides are exposed.
