The Practice 11/03/02
Anyone else think they should rename the show after this episode? I'm thinking Lindsay McBeal & Boston Practice might work...
I really don't like the turn this show has taken in this episode. I've come to expect a show to become a parody of itself after its been on the air for a long time, but this is the first time I've seen a show become a parody of other shows. Singing, hot button controversies, everyone in the cast shouting at each other and next week Spoiler:
|
Sadly I missed this because my Tivo thought they were playing a repeat, when last week they did a last minute switch because of the World Series Game 7.
Ah well, can you give me a quick recap of the major plot points? |
Let's see, Lindsay gets her first case at her one room practice across the hall. It's a woman who is being sued by her neighbor because she sings "One Moment in Time" every morning- of course in the trial the woman is asked to sing the song, which she does very loudly but they win anyway.
Meanwhile, Eugene got a case about a place that does stem cell research that got shut down because of city zoning changes. Jimmy is against abortion, and yells at him for taking the case. There's much yelling back and forth about "waving Catholic wings" and "I'd never say stop waving your black wings, why do you hate Catholics?", then Bobby comes in later and tells Eugene to stop it with the "anti-Catholic" stuff and not to hate Catholicism because of what a few priests did. They try the case, there's a shocker when the scientist on the stand reveals that they 'harvest' some embryos instead of just using 'discarded' (aborted) embryos. Eugene does his closing well and wins. No legal gray areas, no lowlife clients, no fighting with the prosecutors (in fact, I think Helen Gamble was absent from the episode). Just moral high ground and a case about singing. And, previews for next week promise Spoiler:
|
I think David E. Kelley has a fetish for 70's and 80's duets sung by large women.

I like this week's episode. It's a change of pace from 2 weeks ago's episode. It's good to have a fluff episode that doesn't deal with heavy murky legal gray areas once in a while.
