Simpsons Treehouse of Horror XIII

Hoooo hum... the send in the clones one had some parts that made me laugh quite a bit (
Spoiler:
When Homer and his 2nd clone were tossing the first clone into Flanders' yard
) As for the rest... not too many laughs. It seems like the 2nd segment took concepts from previous Treehouses (time travel, raising the dead, world peace) and combining them to make a very sub-par segment, and the final bit was largely laugh free

Consider is days after halloween, the effect of halloween special has wore off..

Verminaard 11-03-02 08:01 PM

They should have put it before Halloween.

This episode left me cold. No big laughs and only a few minor ones.

Anyone notice that the little plays on names they normally due in the Treehouse of Horror opening credits "Terrible Tom Whatisname" was missing this year?

movieking 11-03-02 08:03 PM

I noticed it. I thought that the aliens were missing, but then they showed up at the last minute. It was an okay episode, but nothing great.

Tuan Jim 11-03-02 08:04 PM

The bit with Moe going back in time to get some cavewoman babes was really bad for an ending -- too awkward.

There were some great lines in the first bit, but I can't remember them now.

Most of it fell pretty flat, IMO.

whotony 11-03-02 08:27 PM

did anyone notice who one of the clones was...

Spoiler:
peter from family guy

yeah, they also had the old season 1/shorts style Homer too, and one or two other weird ones.

The last homer was different too, it was the homer of simpsons pilot!!

Deftones 11-03-02 09:41 PM

rotfl @ the Peter clone and the 1st season Homer.

Groucho 11-03-02 09:50 PM

That wasn't Season One Homer, it was Tracy Ullman Short Homer.

Favorite part of the episode for me: somebody at the rally with a sign reading "Fire Gil, Not Guns."

AXP 103 11-03-02 10:21 PM

I liked the episode. I had some good laughs, and my brother thought it was one of the funnier Halloween episodes in a while. IMO, the first and third segments were very funny, while the middle one was solid.

Venusian 11-03-02 10:30 PM

peter cracked me up

big whoppa 11-03-02 10:42 PM

Ho hum. Didn't have a Halloween feel at all. Only the clones held any interest for me.

Thrush 11-03-02 11:03 PM

It had a couple of decent lines.

"We prefer to be called Italian American Pigs"

Charlie Goose 11-03-02 11:20 PM

"In the jungle, the creepy jungle, Homer rides upon a freak!"

The clone episode reminded me way too much of when I'd play the Incredible Machine and would put a ton of Tims in my custom machine and have the machine take them to their ultimate doom one by one. Seeing all of those Homers doing the exact same thing made me wonder if somebody on the Simpsons didn't spend a few too many hours playing the Incredible Machine.

Did it just seem excessively violent this year or was it me? Homer just incessantly murdering his clones, and then all the Homers falling down cliff in an homage to episode featuring Bart Knievel.

Left in the middle of the second storyline featuring guns because it was so bad. Leaving Simpsons ep's early is becoming a more frequent occurence for me.

Only good laughs was the Peter/Original Homer clone.

It's the idea of halloween special. Suppose to be scary or weird in nature, so murder, guns, mummies, blood, ghosts........etc. In other episodes, you won't see all these thing appearing together for sure.

Barings 11-04-02 12:55 AM

There's a difference between scary/weird and violent. All the subtlety (sp) of seasons past has completely disappeared.

When I think of classic Simpsons Halloween ep's, I think of Homer losing his soul to the devil (when he already gave it to Marge) or the "To Serve Man" mocking.

This year it was just over the top (and I don't mean in a comedic way).

Jackskeleton 11-04-02 02:09 AM

It was a decent episode. the problem with this falls with last years aswell.. they air after halloween.

kevin75 11-04-02 07:15 AM

this didn't really seem to halloween-ish in that there wasn't really any scares in it. it was okay but nothing spectacular.

Kudama 11-04-02 07:19 AM

I guess it was the drink, or the fact that I’d been primed up by two previous episodes of ingenious humor, but I frakkin’ loved this episode! The bit when Moe capped “distant future” Homer made my neighbors hate me, what with the cackling and all.

I really dug the digs at PC-ness concerning people of Italian descent tonight. I count three. (“Right, Guissepe?")

Pointyskull 11-04-02 07:41 AM

Two words:

Disco Shrew!

I loved the Island Of Lost Souls segment..

Was it just me (and my wife, since she pointed it out as well), or did the animation in this episode really seem - well, not off, just different.

Things seemed a little more "cartoony", with thick black lines around everything and I think I even noticed shadows appearing under cells, making the characters look like they were floating on the scenery rather than appearing as a part of it.

Did they change animation houses again?
