I'm kinda hoping it sucks. Tuesdays at 9pm are damn crowded right now. Who am I kidding, though? I know I'll watch it regardless.

Woo-Hoo...can't wait!

Feneant 10-29-02 07:39 PM

Eastern kid strikes again! I saw it 2 hours ago, what a show, I'd never watched it before, it's fantastic! Good story, attractive women, well... anything else and it would be a spoiler.

(to also prove that I did see it) I have to ask though
Spoiler:
who is that wife beating child beating mofo, I wouldn't mind seeing his sorry ass get blown up next week

Oh, it was also commercial free, which rocked.

TK-421 10-29-02 08:00 PM

Here we go!

Interesting beginning..

Damn.. that gun shot was right out of nowhere. I thought Jack was gonna beat him...

Anyway, I wonder if Kim's gonna run away and avoid the CTU guys that are coming to pick her up.. Great start to 24

CaptDS9E 10-29-02 08:56 PM

JACK IS BACK. Hell yeah take no prisoners. The First season he was held back because of his family. From the look of things this season he goes all out. Its already started. Im counting down till the next episode

Neitzl 10-29-02 08:59 PM

I was a bit letdown. I'm not sure what I was expecting, though. I avoided all talk about the show before tonight, and nearly managed to not watch any commercials for it, because I thought it was ruin something. I can see that it will get much better, but tonights show wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be.

Another thing that bothered me, there were SOOO many familiar faces in this show that it did detract from it. I kept thinking, I know him/her....oh well.

Still, gotta watch every week.

huzefa 10-29-02 08:59 PM

I gotta say, I'm impressed. There's a lot of storylines in this premiere that I think could lead somewhere really exciting. Kim: hot as ever; Jack: beard...; Mason: beard... even more . Palmer looks like a take-charge president (unlike some presidents....), he had some nice moments, but next week's trailer looks like he does some real crazy stuff. All in all, I'm hooked (for the next couple of episodes at least).

Edge 10-29-02 09:00 PM

The season premiere of 24 didn't disappoint. I'm wondering if Nina will play any kind of role this season. It doesn't look like the story line could have her involved unless there is some kind of a twist. Does anyone know for sure?

silentbob007 10-29-02 09:00 PM

I guess it was OK to kill the guy since he was into kiddie porn .... ;)

I think we'll be better off using airdates rather than "real time hours" to note which episodes we're discussing. It's not confusing now, but when we're halfway through the season, it will be. Also, there's no real need to call this the "one and only" thread for this episode... we usually reserve that title for discussions that have generated multiple threads. The good folks of TV Talk are usually good about not doing that. Edited thread title.

Also, please remember to put discussion of the teaser in spoiler text.

[/moderating mode]

The episode was pretty damn confusing to me... it's going to take another watching to understand everything.

"I'm going to need a hacksaw." Whoa.

Looks like Eric (Rayburn?) is going to fulfill Lady MacPalmer's role from last season -- to second-guess Palmer and do everything that Palmer tells him not to do.

"Sir, I would never work against you." I read that as "I've been working against you from day zero."

Fox's 24 website has a profile for Nina as one of the characters this season... she looks sort of emaciated in her pic. I guess over a year in a hellhole prison, or wherever they're keeping her, will do that to you.

edstein 10-29-02 09:06 PM

Jack Bauer Kicks Ass. This was a great start to this new season. It looks to be better than the last. Anyone else notice Kim in her underware?

CaptDS9E 10-29-02 09:06 PM

For me the best thing was the excellent cast they have this season. The people from last season , plus a whole bunch of other actors we have seen in many movies and tv shows. I was like "Thats ro laren" (from ST:TNG) when Michelle Forbes was sitting next to Palmer. Damn this cast is going to be good

RichC2 10-29-02 09:06 PM

The first bit was a bit odd - pretty predictable and actually a little awkward, but once kim and Jack became a bit more prevelant, it became a bit more interesting.

"I'm going to need a hacksaw." and I was back in it all the way.

caint wait for next week :D

JuryDuty 10-29-02 09:10 PM

Yeah, on the front of my local TV Guide, there's a picture of Nina with the rest of the 24 cast, so I'm betting she's back.

I thought the episode moved kinda slow, but it was necessary to set things up. Kinda like the first episode of Alias. Maybe that's why they ran both without commercials--to keep you in your seat.

About the final 10 minutes, everything REALLY picked up. Man, I wasn't expecting the gunshot. And I think all of us are ready for the bad-daddy-o to get it good. Tony's on his way, so I'm sure they'll all be all right.

I think Kim will probably end up having to protect the mother and her daughter, and in doing so will understand what her father went through last season.

huzefa 10-29-02 09:11 PM

If fox had a promotion where I could just buy the entire second season right now for $300... I think I probably would. I hate waiting a whole other week; why not just show us the commercials from each show for about 3 hours straight, and then just have a 24-hr marathon of new shows.

conscience 10-29-02 09:19 PM

Great episode.

(When Jack was with the kiddie porn dude, a friend came to the door to my dorm room and said hey. I turned to talk to him and then Jack shot the dude and I fell out of my chair.) I wasn't expecting that. That is why this show kicks ass. It is unpredictable.

Kim:

I've done it millions of times, but I'll do it a million more:

movieking 10-29-02 09:25 PM

Agreed. Great episode. I missed the first 10 minutes, but was able to pick it up again immediately on a different channel. Watched the full show twice in a row. It is nice to see Palmer being a strong president, but I am worried about the Kim storyline already.

PacMan2006 10-29-02 09:31 PM

Guys, maybe I missed it or maybe it just wasn't divulged that much or maybe we just have to wait and watch more but...

Who was the guy Jack shot and what was his connection to the terrorists with the bomb?

From what I understood, the guy Jack shot was the only guy alive who could convict the terrorist of his last crime. Is that right?

Geofferson 10-29-02 09:36 PM

Great start to the new season. I have no idea where this story is going...which makes this show so good. I agree that the cast is good too. I especially like the addition of Timothy Carhart...he always does a good job at playing a weasel.

According to the review in USAToday, she'll be back along with the Pres's ex-wife. Get the hacksaw.

Colonel Mustard 10-29-02 09:47 PM

It appears we are going to have a "where's Kim?" story this year, too.

Great first episode again. Let's hope the ratings are better this year for this underappreciated show.

Buck Turgidson 10-29-02 09:47 PM

1. Xander Berkley always looks even a little cooler w/a beard. He's one of the best character actors working today.

2. MICHELLE FORBES!!! YESSSSSSSS! Ro Laren AND Juliana Cox, the take-no-prisoners ME from Homicide: Life On The Streets.

3. Happy to see the always interesting Tamlyn Tomita on Palmer's staff.

I'm very pleased. I was on board last year from the get go, and I was happy this show resonated w/ enough people to bring it back for more.

Also, not only do I want to see Nina again to see just who in the Hell she was working for last year, I also want something from last year cleared up. It's a nagging point that's stuck in my craw all Summer.

(If you didn't see last year's show and want to get the DVD, consider this a SPOILER ALERT...)

When Gaines had Jack under surveillance last year and ordered him to kill Nina...was he unaware of her role in the conspiracy?

It was played out like he had no idea and really expected Jack to ice her. Only his (Jack's) quick thinking in grabbing the kevlar vest saved her, and she escaped to help him...or so we all thought.

I think so. Since the terrorists do not know that he has been killed, I would imagine that Jack will try to infiltrate them again by getting into their good books via killing the only guy that could put away the terrorist. The hacksaw will probably serve as to cut off a identifiable part of his body for proof of death. Just a guess though.
