Push finale

I thought tonight's episode was the best one yet. Whereas many of the episodes seemed like Twin Peaks, this episode had a little more of a Prisoner feel to me. I didn't like the series enough to hope it would continue some other way, but I was surprised how the ending pretty much sealed it off from being continued. After all, all the quirky shows ABC cancels seem to get made into movies (Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive, Clerks Animated).

I missed this series and heard all the good things about it when it was too late. Like Twin Peaks and Clerks, I hope this goes to DVD because I'd pick it up just to check it out based on all the great buzz surrounding it.

For anyone who was drawn into the plot and wants some resolution with all of the loose ends (like me), go to the abc.com website and wait for the pop-up about "The Push, Nevada Experiment." You can right-click and save the 81-page PDF document. It's a good read, but all the same, I have a condensed version that I will post later.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll have to remember to do that later.

http://MyWebPages.comcast.net/msharm...hCondensed.doc is my quick and dirty summary of the 81-page document. Okay, so it's 5 pages long, but compared to 81, that's quick and dirty. To be even quicker and dirtier, here are some of the loose ends I was wondering about that were cleared up by reading the book:

- What is the significance of the Bible?
Spoiler:
The author of the book, along with Al Prufrock, Jim's father, founded Watermark. I know... whoa. They created a "kill code" that would bring down Watermark, and split it in half. Griffin took his half, encoded it, and put it into the Bible in the form of a punch code pattern. The code is useless without Al's half, though, and Griffin doesn't know where that half is.

- What in the hell is the secret of Push, Nevada?
Spoiler:
It started out as an observational experiment headed by Griffin and Al Prufrock... a condensed version of its purpose is this: We will create a town in which we will control the economy and the media. By controlling the economy and the media, we will be able to control the habits of its citizens. It became more insidious when Jamison Jones wrested control of Watermark and the Experiment from G&P, and turned into an attempt to see just how much of people's lives they could control.

- How high up does the secret go?
Spoiler:
Way high. Watermark grew to influence many, many things. Think major media conglomerates. Think the federal government. Think internationally.

- Who sent the fax?
Spoiler:
Griffin sent the fax. He altered the fax to make it look like it came from Bodnick's office

There are still some very important loose ends that remain, though. The biggest one:
Spoiler:
- Where in the world is Al Prufrock? In October 2003, for the first time since Al faked his death, Griffin has noticed activity in Al's offshore account. Al is alive and is out there, somewhere.

Maybe I'm just having a brain lapse, but who is Griffin? Has he even appeared in the shows that aired?

Griffin is the guy who Martha is spoon-feeding at the diner. We haven't been really introduced to him, but we've seen him. In the most recent episode, I think he can be seen as Jim is leaving Martha's and Martha gives him the soup and his dad's hankie. Griffin is sitting on the porch.

I was told on another site that the .doc file may not be dowloading properly, so here's Push Notes online:

Who is the guy that bailed Prufrock out of jail, and why did he bail him out when he'd have been less of a liabilty if he just stayed in jail?

It's not revealed in the book, but I'm guessing Griffin bailed him out. Griffin wanted him out of jail to keep digging into the secret of Push. Either that, or Watermark bailed him out, because if he rotted to death in the Push jail, that might bring some unwanted attention to the town in which an IRS agent just vanished.

My money's on Griffin, though.

Well, it looks like this could have been a pretty good show...

...would have been fun to watch all these things unfold

I wouldn't expect anything less. Do you post in the TWoP forums, or do you lurk?

I just registered today. I tried registering a few weeks ago, but for some reason, they were having problems and people couldn't register.

I have a grand total of 1 post so far.

Thanks for the summary. 81 pages is a lot of reading......

Let's pretend that ABC didn't cancel the show -- would it have only lasted one season anyway, assuming the whole plot was uncovered by the end of the season?

I don't know. Personally, I really liked the show. I first watched it because I was intrigued with the prize money aspect, but after the first episode, I started watching just because I thought it was a good show. Heck, I never even totally paid attention to all the clues, I was just enjoying the show. Still, I guess it's pretty cool to try to figure out the puzzle...although I've put all of 2 minutes of thought into it.

I totally agree with you, Zeus. I first tuned in to satisfy my curiosity. And after one episode I didn't give two ****s about the contest anymore -- I just wanted to see the mystery unfold.

Great acting. Great cast. Great writing. Great story. Great show.

Make sure to throw a big party for us when you win.

I watched MNF and I totally missed the clue. (I like football, I didn't watch the game just for the clue). What was it?

I guess the show didn't get good ratings...after all, even before the show started, people were blasting it cause Ben Affleck was a producer.
