American Gladiators

Anyone still watch this show? I used to LOVE it as a kid...my fav "game" was the one which sued the tennis ball cannon to shoot the people.

i liked the game where they had to try and run a football past one gladiator and then wrestle one gladiator out of the ring. if the first contestant succeeded, you always knew the second guy was going to get a pounding.

Oh yeah, those gladiators weren't horsing around. They took those competitions very seriously. You'd often see some bad blood coming up between them and the contestants.

Oh yes, I remember EVERY contestant on American Gladiators.

;)

I use to watch it all the time when I was younger back when USA Network was actually a good cable channel... (great gameshows, Cartoon Express, ahh the good old days).

Assault (tennis ball gun) and the upside down hanging track were my favorites.

Joust and hang tough sucked. Altasphere was good sometimes and sucked others.

the best one was Human Cannonball - very good, except one female gladiator constantly, instead of taking the hit, would like shift to the side and graze the contestant. such crap!

watching the show now (major reruns this summer on TNN) i'm reminded of how SERIOUS the show tried to seem on TV...almost like a real league! they were competing for $250,000 in cash and prizes, yet we never heard exactly what Mark Ortega won!!

Mike Adamle, former Chicago Bear and local sportscaster before he hosted American Gladiators... is back here sportscasting on the local news again.

My favorite is Ice. Damn she's a hottie. I remember one time on Breakthrough and Conquer when a contestant tried to pick a fight with her after a hard tackle. On the next section (Conquer) Blaze proceeded to beat the living crap out of the player so much that the the ref stopped the match and disqualified Blaze for being too rough.

Oh, the memories.

I always had a thing for LACE!

innocentfreak 10-25-02 10:39 PM

I think they could still pull this show off today if they didn't go with such outrageous games.

Bring back powerball(I think that is what it is called where they slammed the balls into the barrels), breakthrough and conquer, the tennis ball cannon (whatever it was called), and I am sure there are a few more that I am forgetting.

Was this show the one where the death-row inmates got a chance to win their freedom? The early-nineties are a little hazy for me.
