Quick question during the commercial...

Was that cop at the house at the beginning that Katherine was talking to "Johnny Cage" from MK?

Wormwood 10-18-02 02:52 PM

Yep. His name is Linden Ashby. He was also in the short lived ABC series "Spy Game" back in 1997.

Got a question: what was the deal w/ Grissom and the sign language at the end?

***PSSTT ... its the beginning of a long rumored subplot where Grissom begins to mentally unravel and he's going to start systematically knocking off deaf people and leaving false clues everywhere and see if he can get one of his cronies to figure out its him. Then he will ride off into the sunset and that person (probably Warrick) will becoime the new lead CSI. But don't tell anyone.

I generally like this show but I thought this episode blew big time.
I mean, come on, Dwarves as a focal point ?? Have the writers already run out of ideas?
Nothing against " little people" and all but man what a dull episoode.
On a side note, was it just me or did Grissom look a little turned on watching the midgets??

Remember he is suffering from a genetic disorder himself.
Losing his hearing. Plus he had a made a connection
with the women who found the hanging body.
If you remember he was watching in her direction.
She kind of looked over at him in disgust. This
after being accused/questioned of the murder by him earlier.

I liked the original concept of this series. But its not
on my must watch list anymore. Most series I feel
something after viewing them. Think I would get more
for my hours time, if I was chewing styrofoam.

The going deaf just struck me as very unusual and I wasn't sure whether the writers made it up or incorporated the fact that the actor was going deaf. Usual subplot that's all. Not the typical office romance, office backstabbing, white guy doesn't get along with black guy but then they become best friends, let's have two big characters marry, let's have someone die, let's have a baby or kid, etc, etc.

its kind of odd how last episode there was no mention of the deafness, and now he's back in the deaf school.

kind of a poor episode, not enough Sara.

As far as I know....
Spoiler:
Grissom's mother was deaf, so Grissom knows sign language. However, the cause of the deafness is genetic, so Grissom is slowly going deaf himself. This was revealed in the last season's conclusion, and was a plot point in a recent episode.

Yeah, did you see the whole discussion he had with that girl about genetics and such? It was typical beat-you-over-the-head CSI-style. He identified with the dwarves because they too had a genetic condition.

The one thing I didn't understand was the lipstick on the glass in the guy's room. His fiancee said it wasn't hers and that she was pregnant (which was "confirmed" at the end.) So red herring? Seemed weird to let that drop...

I had never seen CSI before but I recorded this for a friend, so I went ahead and watched it. It was an ok cop show, but nothing special to make it stick out from any of the dozens of others.

Not a great episode, but pretty good. As soon as I saw Mickey from Seinfeld, I thought that he would be the killer. As it turns out, he was just a plot device to introduce us to a crucial piece of evidence - the extending wheelchair.

tanman 10-22-02 01:57 AM

just watched it. i have to wait and watch survivor with my girlfriend first...anyways. i thought it was a decent episode but not the best.

one question, what did he say in ASL at the end? can someone interpret. ironically i have to tape it because i am in an ASL class at that time. Even though they were going pretty slow i still don't know some of the signs.

all i could catch is something like
woman: Dr Grissom welcome back (said that)
Grissom: how are you(?)
woman: where are you going?
Grissom: picked up class lip reading
woman: i tell...(don't know)
Grissom: (something about college)
woman: take care of yourself (said that)

maybe i will ask my professor tomorrow.
