BoatDrinks, I watch more TV (not professionally) than anyone I've ever met, but I'm clearly not the typical viewer, so my opinions probably don't represent a very large demo. But, personally, I am burned out on the ensemble shows and would very much like to see some shows driven by strong leads.
I would also like to see more "fun" shows. One of my favorites from last season, Thieves, was just a fun show. No "very special episodes" - no big name guest stars - no fate of the world ... just fun.
The two genres I miss the most are the 70's PI and the 80's action/adventure. Everything seems over the top. A good hard-nosed PI show would be great, but nowadays it has to be uber-gritty. The same with a "fun" show. Anything that's fun also has to be directed by McG and showcase massive stunts. Tone it down a bit. Let's get back to good character-driven PI shows or a good fun crime-fighter show. I-Man gave us some of that but was canned by the monsters at USA2. Where are the Stephen J. Cannells and Bruce Gellers when you need them?

so a Mike Hammer series is seems too dark..
and from the sounds of it.. you'd want to have an ED feel but he's a detective/private investigator. hmm...
maybe you could combine those two

Boat,
I think the new series could do quite well. I keep thinking that it would be something like moonlighting. Except no Cybil S. charater. Just something to think about.
