Gotta start the obligatory countdown

crankyman 09-24-02 08:10 PM

great episode! i'm looking forward to the new big bads this year!

seems like a return to buffy of old....

cranky.

Verminaard 09-24-02 08:13 PM

Yes. They have brought the show full circle. Now Buffy is Giles to Dawn's more whiney Buffy, and a new Scooby gang is being introduced to ply the series when Sarah Michelle Gellar leaves.

I enjoyed it though.

Dr. DVD 09-24-02 08:27 PM

DAMN!!! That was a solid episode with a great cliffhanger style ending to leave you wanting more. What was up with Spike's hair? oh well.

Spoiler:
The ending really left you guessing. When I saw Warren I knew something was rotten and that it could not possibly be him. When he morphed into Glory I thought : Glory's back, she must have somehow gotten into Warren's body. When Adam emerged I figured that maybe his bio-chip or whatever must have enhanced him with some sort of power. However, once it turned into Drusilla and The Master I knew something was up. My thought: this is Satan. It kept talking about how everything related back it in some way and how in the end it wall about, well, it. I think Joss has this whole season pre-planned and is building up for one doozy of a finale.
Or maybe it's just me. ;)

superstringtheory 09-24-02 08:43 PM

P H E N O M E N A L.

So who left the talisman or did I just miss something (although hard to believe).

I hope to be seeing more of Halfrek, she's just great.

innocentfreak 09-24-02 08:45 PM

Argggghhhh I missed it, I am going to have to read the spoilers unless someone is willing to share a tape.

das Monkey 09-24-02 08:50 PM

On tonight's episode of Saved by the Bell: The New Class, Mr. Belding offers Screech a job at Bayside High mentoring the new students.

Do love D.B. Woodside though. "To Serve Man is a cookbook" was a priceless line too. Rumor has it that characters from the original series (Willow, Xander, Giles) may make guest appearances this year! Keeping my fingers crossed!

elektra 09-24-02 10:10 PM

I liked it. Seemed to have the "old buffy" feel to it. Anthony looked hot as ever.

I'm wondering who left the talisman as well, the new principal or Anya?

Yes, das, I loved the To Serve man line as well. That was a good ep of the Zone.

I'll probably rewatch the ep to see if I missed anything interesting.

Interesting that they appear to be laying the ground work for the show without Sarah as someone else mentioned. I doubt I'll stay with it though. Buffy won't be the same show, well, without Buffy.

For all of you Faith fans - Eliza has been signed to return as Faith in both Buffy and Angel this season. From what I read, she's signed for at least three eps of Angel and five of Buffy. The article mentioned specifically that Faith would come in towards the end of the season. Now, if that is true, I wonder if they are actually going to line up Faith to take over. If that's the case, that could be interesting. Otherwise, I doubt I'll still watch without Buffy.

Off to a good start.

Mantecore 09-24-02 10:11 PM

Episode was not that good, the end was pretty kool buts thats it :(

bedhead_75 09-24-02 10:54 PM

I thought it was very good. Not the best ,but I think ME are just getting warmed up. Is it just me or does it seem like the show FINALLY has some production value this season. Last year seemed so dark and claustrophobic (probably on purpose) but I loved the change in scenery and scope of this episode. The scenes in the basement seemed kind of Silent Hill-ish to me, and that's a good thing. And events at the end just left me wanting more, like a good cliffhanger should.

The music really caught my ear too, it seemed, more epic, if that makes sense. I think it was a very solid start to what may be the final year.

tasha99 09-24-02 11:03 PM

I thought the episode was really promising--lots of witty lines and no more depression. I think this season will be a lot better than the last.

I like this episode. A lot. It had the right "Buffy" feel to it, and for the first time in forever, Dawn wasn't annoying.

It does make me wonder A) what the heck went on in the beginning of the show, with the weird chase scene (was I mistaken, or was that Spike looking out the door in Istanbul?), B) whether there's a big swerve coming up with the apparent new Junior Scooby Gang, and C) why Willow wasn't one of the morphing "Big Bads" at the end (or did I miss her).

btlives 09-24-02 11:27 PM

Like the new Kukla, Fran & Ollie Gang.

But can someone please tell me where Buffy's Breasts
are hiding out. She looks more like Buffy McBeal of late.

rotfl I think Scooby ate them. This episode rocked, and I second Dr. DVD's theory, a very nice conclusion.

Doubtful as her movie career is quite healthy. Can't imagine she would give it up to do TV full time.

JawsAddict 09-25-02 01:17 AM

I enjoyed this episode a lot, particularly the ending, but Spike's new hair has got to go. It just does not work.

I thought this was a very promising start. It delivered the expected big changes in character focus-Dawn's apparently permanent increased role-that may disappoint and alienate fans who want the show exactly the way it used to be, but it did bring back some of the tone and feel of past seasons.

The storylines definitely grabbed me despite my doubts about this season. I just hope they can follow through in similar fashion.

If so, why is she is suddenly available to do Buffy/Angel again after being "too busy for TV"? Is she just protecting her position in the mythology in case they make Buffy movies? Just enjoys playing Faith? Doing someone a favor?

I don't know, but I'm wondering if her movie career has lost some momentum and a TV lead role wouldn't be out of the question now.

That said, I think you're right as much as I'd like you to be wrong. :)

costanza187 09-25-02 06:28 AM

I liked the episode! btw i got that cd yesterday too, first place i looked...it was 11 something at walmart

Pointyskull 09-25-02 07:43 AM

Well, the season premiere certainly didn't disappoint. Humor quotient was very high, and damn if it wasn't great to see Glory again (even if it was ever so briefly). I really miss her. :eyebrow:

Whedon really jumped in quick and set the tone for some really dark happenings to take place in Sunnydale, and from all indications it looks like the storyline could shape up for the makings of a good season...

I'm a little uneasy about Dawn's new mini-scooby gang, and I just hope this season doesn't follow that arc too much - though I suspect Whedon is planting the seeds for some type of rumored Dawn series.

Doug Heffernan 09-25-02 07:58 AM

My wife always said she liked the episodic Buffy's better - they were mini horror movies. As time went on, the show became more like a soap opera. Mindless chatter spewing from Dawn's mouth, etc, etc.

We thought the season opener was great. It was actually "scary" at some points and made us jump a few times (like the old days). Very suspenseful at some points (esp. in the school basement).

The re-appearance of the high school is good - kind of gives the show a needed focus again. The show centering around "The Magic Box" just didn't do it for us.

Dawn actually didn't annoy me once the whole episode! In fact, we actually thought her lines were funny and the whole "cell-phone thing" was very entertaining.

All in all. I think it was a great start!

Oh, and PS - I was right, Spike did go to Africa to become a full-fledged vamp. again, and instead got his soul back.( as evidenced by him trying to rip his heart out). I still can't believe this wasn't obvious to all!!

 My first thought also, she actualy had some good lines. So far, I like the Dawn arc. It sould bring some more fun into this season.

The one thing I would like to know though is how Xander went from a bumbling construstion worker, to a suit & tie forman heading up a huge project.

Did anyone else think Anya looked pretty bad?

Dr. DVD 09-25-02 08:35 AM

After looking at Buffy and Anya, I feel like starting a "Feed the Actresses" campaign. Sorry to get off topic, but when is someone going to realize these women are ruining their beautiful bodies?

Thin does not equal beauty. Just look at Callista Flockhart. These Hollywood producers need to sit up and take notice of what they are not only doing to once beautiful women in Hollywood, but young girls across America who follow them. I am tempted to go to Hollywood myself, not to break into entertainment, but to make my voice heard[Malcolm X] by any means necessary![/Malcolm X]

I was with you on that one, my man.......

Timber 09-25-02 08:41 AM

When Buffy found Spike in the basement and she asked if anyone was in there didnt' he say something like "no, just the 3 of us"? Seemed kind of odd to me.
